The cohabiting couple has decided to move from Gjerdrum after surviving the landslide.
Mona Torp and Stein Magne Ranum wake up with a thud. Is it an excavator? Or maybe a takras?
Then comes the mighty crash.
A few seconds later, the outer wall of the living couple is on the bed. Stein Magne gets stuck underneath. Mona gets out of bed and stands up. It is buried in tiles and has the washing machine on top.
There is a new landslide. The outer wall lifts and Stein Magne lets go.
– I would have died if the second landslide hadn’t come, Torp tells VG.

Surrounded by planks, glass shards, and nails
The house of the cohabiting couple was one of 31 houses that were taken over by the landslide in Gjerdrum on the night of December 30. Drammens Tidende wrote about the case first.
Mona says that she, without understanding how she managed, was able to move the washing machine on top of her.
He yelled at his roommate. And I got answers.
– It was a relief that he was alive. He let go and pulled me out, she says.
The couple who lived together wore only underwear and seized their duvets. They wrapped themselves in them and sat down.
Torp was bleeding from a large cut on his head. The couple was surrounded by boards, glass shards and nails.
– It was like we had the lead role in a horror movie. We were completely helpless. It looked like we were sitting in a big hole. It was dark and unreal, we didn’t recognize each other, she says.
The neighbor sat with them
After a while, the neighbor from the flat approached them. He sat down on the duvets with the couple who lived together.
The neighbor said he could not find those who lived with him.
– We stood there and froze as we listened to the people around us asking for help. It was snowing and raining, says Torp.
After three hours the rescue helicopter arrived.
– I’ve never been so happy before, she admits.

33 degree body temperature
The cohabiting couple and the neighbor were immediately transferred by helicopter to A-hus. According to Mona, they had a body temperature of 33 degrees when they arrived at the hospital.
On Friday afternoon they will be discharged.
– I really hope we don’t have to experience this again. It was absolutely cruel. We can take comfort in the fact that we survived and that we came out with cuts and abrasions, says Torp.
Now the plan is for the cohabiting couple to live with Torp’s youngest daughter.
– We can be there as long as we want. Eventually we will have to find a temporary place to live. Fortunately, the insurance company has been a great help, he says.
Torp fears that his cat has lost his life in the avalanche.
– It was an indoor cat, so I don’t think it came out in time. It’s hard. I lost the kindest cat in the world.
She adds:
– It is terrible to think that so many people around us have not yet found their loved ones.
The couple has been a lover for 2 years and living together since April 1, 2020.
Torp has lived in Gjedrum for almost 40 years, but this experience has made the two of them decide to move.
– We have decided that we will not live in the camp in the future. We would rather have mountains below us, he concludes.
