Line Andersen (47) is suing the employer and asking for compensation.
According to the journalisten media website, which was the first to report the news, the case concerns, among other things, a change in job duties by NRK.
Sports journalist Andersen believes it is an invalid trade termination and is demanding compensation from the state channel.
The 47-year-old has extensive experience in NRK sports and, most of all, made a name for himself in athletics and chess broadcasts. He has also appeared in the television campaign and on the May 17 show on NRK.
Background: Line Andersen replaced as chess program manager
However, the television celebrity, with the big live broadcasts as a special field, has not been seen on screen since 2019.
– There is nothing in the whole world that I would like more than that was not necessary, but it has turned out to be. I have always spoken to some of the best people in the area and we have tried to do everything we can to prevent this from happening. But in the end there was no other way out, Andersen tells Journalisten.
There he also says that the case is more than that he is deprived of the functions of program manager.
– it has been hard
For VG, Andersen describes the last few years as follows:
– It was tough. I’m sorry. I have tried to work hard to solve this in every possible way. That’s what my life is really about.
– What is the conflict about?
– I can’t answer what it has to do with the field. This is a case between NRK and me.
– Do you feel like you’ve been fired?
– No, I still get paid in NRK.
Andersen does not want to elaborate on the duties he has had at NRK in the past two years. It also won’t say what kind of amount you’re asking for, or exactly why you’re demanding compensation.
– I wish this was never in public, I have nothing to gain from being in public space. There is no plan behind this. I wish this had never happened.
Line Andersen on NRK’s Hardest Job: – Had to take sleeping pills
– Great consequences
Andersen’s attorney, Tron Dalheim, tells Journalisten that, as they see it, Andersen has been subjected to a legally untenable process that has been disproportionately onerous for her.
– The case concerns decisions made by NRK, which have important consequences for Line Andersen’s subsequent career, the lawyer tells the website.
Four days have been reserved for the case at the Oslo District Court in mid-May.
– We can confirm that NRK has received a subpoena from Line Andersen. We have had a dialogue with Line Andersen for a long time and we want to find a solution. We don’t want to say anything more now, as we consider this to be a personnel matter, Olav Hypher, NRK’s organizational director, tells VG.
Leader Rolf Johansen at NRKJ, the NRK club of the Norwegian Journalists Association, tells VG that it is unnatural for them to comment on a subpoena they are not a party to.
VG asked Line Andersen when he first considered going to court with the case.
– It is not something you consider until you realize that it is the only way out.
To be continued in NRK
– Do you plan to continue working at NRK after the court agreement?
– I hope so!
– Don’t you feel that the conflict is at a level that makes it impossible for you to continue working there?
– Not from me in any way, replies Andersen, who previously won the gold badge of honor from the Norwegian Chess Federation (2018) and the Riksmålsforbundet TV award (2015).
In 2018, Andersen was nominated for the generous audience award ahead of the Gullruten awards ceremony, and the following year she ran with a chance to win in the category of best female presenter. However, it has the benefit of winning.
Changed by his will
Before Christmas 2019, Andersen herself announced on social media that she would not yet lead the Christmas chess space broadcasts on NRK. At the same time, she explained that it was the channel’s choice, not hers.
– I have tried my best to make chess a good TV show, but this Christmas NRK has chosen another host for the space Christmas chess, he later told VG.
Prior to that, Andersen had directed all of NRK’s major chess broadcasts since 2013, including four World Cups in classical, one World Cup in Fischer Chess, and several World Cups of fast and lightning chess.
During the Chess World Cup in 2019, he had to take sleeping pills in order not to be able to sleep.
Reporters Favorite
Andersen has been heavily marked as a television attraction during the World Championships in Athletics, where he had all the major international athletes stand in front of the NRK microphone. Among those who apparently preferred to engage Andersen was sprinter Usain Bolt (34).
The good relationship with Bolt lasted for many years.
– I was probably lucky there. But Bolt was also the one who stole most of my night’s sleep, because I was afraid of failure, Andersen confided to VG two years ago.
Viewers have also known Andersen from alpine broadcasts on NRK since 2005. In 2019, however, he asked for a break from alpine skiing, but then hoped to return again in the 20/21 season.
Andersen began his journalistic career as an editorial assistant at VG and spent a period at P4 before starting at NRK and TV-sport in 2004.
In an interview with VG just over three years ago, the 47-year-old estimated that she could boast more than 1000 hours of live. In the same interview, she explained that she puts a lot of pressure on herself.
– I thrive in front of the camera. Making this happen is important to me, and I regret not doing it. Like many others, I have varying degrees of self-confidence and I also have bad days. Sometimes I almost struggle with it.
