Ten people have died and 16 are missing after the violent fires in California this week. In the city of Paradise, where 85 people lost their lives in a fire in 2018, several chose to evacuate this week.

– This is the part of the presentation I feared the most. It brings back memories of when I stood before you in 2018 to talk about the people who lost their lives at Camp Fire.

Butter County Sheriff Kony Honea said this when he had to tell the press this week that three people were found dead after the powerful North Complex Fire in Northern California, which among other things took over several houses in the Berry Creek area.

At least 16 failed

One of those who packed her things was Victoria Sinclaire, who in 2018 moved into a new home after the catastrophic fire, writes the San Francisco Chronicle.

– It’s the same feeling of being afraid. I can’t stop shaking. There is ash everywhere, big chunks of ash. There are some burned trees that have come down, well, I don’t know where. It feels like it’s happening all over again, except this time I have to take my clothes, he tells the newspaper.

On Thursday night local time, the fire did not reach Paradise, but city residents have been asked to be vigilant in case the situation changes.

Also, 16 people are missing, writes AP.

Search teams are now heading to the ruins of the fire to search for the missing and are receiving help from anthropologists at Chico State University.

Fear of more deaths in Oregon

The states of Washington and Oregon are also on fire.

In Washington, a one-year-old boy lost his life earlier this week, while four people have been confirmed dead in Oregon. Gov. Kate Brown said during a news conference Thursday that authorities believe an unknown number of people have lost their lives, writes local newspaper The Oregonian.

– People are eager to get information as quickly as possible. Right now, fire crews are focused on saving lives and we want them to continue to focus on critical work. As we learn more about the deaths, we will post it as soon as possible.

In all, up to 500,000 people in Oregon, 10 percent of the state’s residents, have had to evacuate, writes the AP news agency.
