The English Football Association announces that the arrival of Jadon Sancho, Tammy Abraham and Ben Chilwell to the national team meeting will be delayed due to a social gathering they recently attended.
– To avoid a risk to the whole group, the arrival of Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho will be delayed. This is to give us time to gather information on a social gathering that the three players will have attended this weekend, the English Football Association writes in a press release.
The aforementioned social gathering is said to have been Abraham’s 23rd birthday this weekend. Abraham himself has confirmed to Sky Sports that a surprise party was organized for him on Saturday night.
The Sun posted a video this weekend clearly showing more than six people present at the private party. English government guidelines currently allow a maximum of six people in private settings.
Both Chilwell and Sancho are captured on camera in the video published by the newspaper.
It is not clear how long the meeting will be “delayed” for the three, but there are strong indications that the trio will not be available for England’s meeting with Wales next Thursday.
England will face Wales at Wembley next Thursday. Then Belgium awaits Sunday October 11 and Denmark on Wednesday October 14.
Sancho was not in Borussia Dortmund’s call-up in the 4-0 win over Freiburg on Saturday afternoon, the same day of the match.
On Monday, the 20-year-old posted an apology for the incident on his Instagram profile.
– I want to regret breaking the guidelines of the authorities and, although I did not know how many participants there would be when I arrived, I take full responsibility for my actions. I’ll be sure to learn from this, Sancho writes.
The party’s guest of honor also apologized for the incident with Sky Sports.
“Although I did not know that this was planned, I would regret with all my heart the naivety shown by everyone by organizing and participating in this meeting,” says Abraham.
