After two days of the big count missing the putter, Viktor Hovland actually did it during Saturday’s round.

The Norwegian has played brilliantly from tee to green during all three rounds of the tournament, and found great fluidity on the green on Saturday as well. With nine birdies and just one bogey, it was a 63-shot round, eight shots below par.

Is a tangent to that lowest score for Hovland on the PGA Tour.

– It was a good day. A bit rough start with the bogey on hole 1, but I managed to make a lot of good shots after that. I got down some good putts but still felt like it could have been even lower. I did a lot of good iron shots and of course I got down a couple of long putts. I also missed a few short putts, but I’m not complaining about eight under par. Hopefully we can ride in the same style tomorrow, says Hovland in response to VG’s questions, relayed through the press contact on the PGA Tour.

The Norwegian jumped from eighth to third place and is now just two strokes behind leader Emiliano Grillo.

– I don’t know what those around me will do, but there are many who play golf well. If I play in the same style as today, at least it will be very interesting, says Hovland of the chances of winning.

Hovland comes out in the lead ball on Sunday, along with Grillo and Tom Hoge. The Norwegian’s group leaves at four o’clock, Norwegian time.

With a win, Hovland can jump up to 15th in the world rankings. The winner also takes around 11.4 million NOK in prizes.

Hovland has been incredibly stable from the start after the spring crown break, and is the one with the longest series of world rankings (16, 15 of them after the crown break). However, the actual best results have been longer and this summer’s third place at the Workday Charity Open is his only place in the top ten since he became the first Norwegian to win a tournament on the PGA Tour in February. when he rose to the top at the Puerto Rico Open.

On the other hand, there have been five places between 11-15 since June, and now Hovland has a chance to capture a truly superior place again.

Hovland opened this week’s tournament well in Mexico with 67 rounds, four shots under par, on Thursday and was one time up with a split lead midway through the second round on Friday night. The Norwegian was five strokes below par for the round after nine and a total of nine strokes below par, largely thanks to some fantastic putts.

In the last nine, however, the putter was anything but hot. The Norwegian missed several short putts and went three over par in the last half of the round.

– I had a very good start, except for the bogey on hole 1 yesterday. I managed to make a lot of birdies in the first nine, and I did that too today. The last nine weren’t that bad, but there were a couple of bad chips here and there and no putters went in. It has a bit to do with fluency, but it helps to play golf well. Then everything will go quite well in the end, he says about Friday’s round.

Thus, it was a return two strokes under par, 69 strokes, and fell from fifth to eighth place.

On Saturday, he opened with a bogey on hole 1 for the second day in a row, but again he was turbocharged throughout the round. Five birdies made it four strokes below par after the first nine holes, and the good play continued until the end. Thus, he made his way into the battle of victory before Sunday’s final round.
