– I wanted a safe place – VG

Former Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide was removed from a safe seat in the Oslo Labor Party’s proposal for an electoral roll for the 2021 parliamentary elections.

– I am very motivated for a new round at the Storting and wanted a safe seat, says Espen Barth Eide.

He told the nominating committee in September that he wanted re-election, but said no when he was offered fifth place.

Since Labor leader Jonas Gahr Støre is first in Oslo, and the party practices the principle that every second candidate is a woman and a man, in practice it was the third place that Barth Eide was looking for. So was the leader of the Oslo Labor Party, Frode Jacobsen, who was elected before Barth Eide.

– Frode and I are good friends, and we intend to continue with this after this. We’ve had a good dialogue all the way and we’re well reconciled, and we really think we should both be in third place, but it doesn’t work, says Barth Eide.

– I will work very hard to get as many candidates as possible, but as it seems now, unfortunately, fifth place is not a safe place, so I decided to withdraw, he says.

The Labor Party received just four Oslo seats on VG’s previous party’s barometer.

“The committee unanimously wanted to nominate Espen Barth Eide for fifth place. Espen has informed the committee that he will say no to that spot. Therefore, the committee has recommended three women and two men for the number of seats we currently have. at the Storting, “writes Oslo Ap on its website.

– In the first round of contributions, I received a lot of support to be nominated in a safe place, which made me happy and inspired, says Espen Barth Eide.

– I am one hundred percent and so on, and there are many ways to contribute politically, he says.
