The incoming president of the United States, Joe Biden, and the incoming vice president, Kamala Harris, were interviewed last night by the television channel CNN. The first big interview after your election. Biden said that fighting the corona virus will be his first priority, and that he will get the vaccine himself when it arrives:

It will inspire the population to get vaccinated

– When Dr. Fauci says it’s safe, I’ll take the vaccine in public.

“People have lost faith that the vaccine will work,” Biden said. Now he hopes he can inspire people to take it up by leading by example and showing that it is safe.

There will also be three other former US presidents: Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton will also take the vaccine in public. In the hope that the American people will do the same.

Maintains Fauci as an advisor

Anthony Fauci is America’s leading expert on infectious diseases and a member of outgoing President Trump’s coronavirus task force. Now Biden has asked Fauci to become his top medical adviser.

Biden and his transition team had their first meeting with Fauci yesterday to achieve the best possible fight against the pandemic when Biden assumes the presidency on January 20.

Trump disinterested in the pandemic

Outgoing President Trump has repeatedly expressed his irritation at his top medical adviser and has also retweeted others’ wishes that Fauci be fired. Since the election, Trump has shown little interest in fighting the pandemic.

Spread conspiracy theories

Instead, the outgoing president has used most of his public appearances and his Twitter account to spread false conspiracy theories that he won the election. And that the Democrats have stolen his victory through extensive electoral fraud.

Neither Trump nor his lawyers have presented any evidence of voter fraud in the many lawsuits filed in US courts. Lawsuits that have mostly been quickly rejected by the judges.

Bandage for 100 days

Biden said that immediately after January 20, he will introduce a ban on the use of face masks in all public, federal buildings and also on public transportation. But he also makes a strong recommendation beyond the court order:

– I want to pray all about wearing a mask for 100 days. So I think we will see a significant decrease in the number of infected and sick. Along with the vaccines that come, we can kill the virus.

Difficult distribution

Biden did not hide the fact that it will be difficult to distribute the vaccine to everyone in the great country. Especially since a vaccine must be kept refrigerated at minus 70 degrees.

– That is why we need the Senate to be willing to allocate money, a lot of money to bring the vaccine to the people.

Biden emphasized the need for the vaccine to be rapidly distributed to parts of the population that have been severely affected by the pandemic:

– Black and brown neighborhoods are the ones that need it most, because African Americans and Latinos are the most affected. Here the risk of dying from the disease is 4-5 times higher than in the rest of the population.

More money for schools

Dr. Fauci and other health experts have called for schools to be open during the pandemic. But teachers’ organizations have protested that it is not safe enough.

“We must listen to both sides,” said incoming Vice President Kamala Harris.

-It is a priority that children go back to school. Therefore, we must promote a collaboration between teachers and health experts.

Biden added that schools need more money and more teachers. That way, they can maintain a greater distance, with smaller groups of students.

Better connections with Europe

Biden emphasized the need to reestablish a good relationship with the NATO countries and with Europe. Among other things, to get them involved when the United States has to face Russia, China, and Iran:

– We cannot allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. But what has happened since Trump ended the nuclear deal with Iran is that the country has come a long way in developing weapons and missiles. These can be very difficult negotiations, but we cannot do it alone.

Black Justice Minister?

Biden was asked if this was not the time for a black attorney general. After George Floyd’s murder, the protests and the Black Lives Matter movement. He avoided responding, but said he would keep his promise to carry out the most diverse government formation in American history.

Biden has already appointed large numbers of women and minority representatives to the government apparatus.

Incoming Vice President Harris emphasized:

– We will not give instructions to the Ministry of Justice. You must be allowed to work independently.

A statement that Biden immediately agreed with wholeheartedly:

– It’s not my Ministry of Justice. It’s from the town.

He wants Trump to be present at the inauguration

When Biden was asked if he wanted Trump to be present during the inauguration ceremony on January 20, as is the tradition, he began to smile.

– For me personally it is not important that he is there. But I think it can be important for the United States and for the world. In this way we can show that the chaos it has created is over. That we have made a peaceful transition.

I am concerned about the impression we have made on the rest of the world. Because of how they look at us. Therefore, a normal transition can be important.
