– I do not have anything to hide. It can only be done with this, Georg Eide tells NRK, when asked what it’s like to explain himself in court.

Reiaren from Høylandsbygd in Kvinnherad is charged with violation of the Pollution Control Act and trash changes. The background is the wreck of the freighter “Tide Carrier” on February 22, 2017.

According to the indictment, he was an intermediary in the work of preparing the ship to travel from Høylandsbygd to illegal demolition in Pakistan.

He owns a criminal debt of nectar, and he rejects all the charges against him.

The prosecution period is from the end of December 2016 to the day of departure on February 20, 2017.

Eide claims in the explanation that he said he was out of the game during this period. He had a stroke on New Years Eve 2016 and says he couldn’t eat, talk or walk.

-I had to have help with everything, he explained.

In early January, rehabilitation will begin. He says he was on sick leave until March, but admits he attended a meeting with the new owner company, Wirana Shipping, on February 7.

– Spent more than 200 million crowns on the ship

He reiterated several times that he has never owned a villa or had plans to ship the boat for scrapping after he bought it in 2007. At the same time, he admits there were different opinions on the matter in the company.

He noted that he had invested a total of more than NOK 200 million in the ship over the ten years it was in storage at Høylandsbygd. The ship never went into operation. The prosecutor believes this reinforces the claim that Eide knew the ship would be scrapped when he sold it in 2015.

In court on Friday, he explained how he intended to rebuild the ship for other purposes. The ship was unusable as it was, but Eide contacted several companies to find new uses for it after rebuilding.

– Therefore, it is completely illogical that he had the intention of scraping it, Eide said in court.

List several explanations for why the project never materialized. The financial crisis caused significant financial problems for the Eide group. Tide Carrier finally had to be sold in 2015.

Atmosphere amps at court

The buyer was the shipping company Wirana, which last year approved and paid a fine of seven million crowns after the Tide Carrier accident.

The prosecution spent time confronting the defendant with what they knew about this company. It was noted that the company is among the world leaders in the purchase of boats and their sale to scratch.

Eide said she was not aware of this.

– What I got to know was that the ship was heading to Dubai, and then it was bound for Africa, he explained.

He was upset several times when the prosecutor confronted him with emails mentioning scraping, and believes it is impossible for him to go into detail about this.

– I have 300,000 emails in my inbox and 200,000 of them are unopened, Eide said.

The explanation for the defendants continued on Tuesday. He faces up to two years in prison if convicted.
