Thomas Alsgaard (48) had no influence on the choice of clothing ahead of this year’s wildest night in “Skal vi danse”.

Saturday’s theme is the dance show, and the description “Wildest night of the year” means that contestants will perform songs that viewers have never heard before in the dance show’s history.

Alsgaard will impress the judges and spectators with the melodies of “OL-Floka”.

– Show dance doesn’t just mean there is no dance to relate to. Also, it’s terribly difficult to make something real from “OL-Floka,” says a nervous Alsgaard over the phone to VG.

He says it is still a bigger challenge for instructor Rikke Lund (24) than it is for him. It is Lund who will create the dance number.

– She’s desperate, and I understand why, the former ski star laughs and adds:

– I hope people understand that we have not decided the song and the outfit ourselves. We look like two five-year-olds on their way to the playground in oversized parkas.

Alsgaard emphasizes that her dance partner usually has a lot of good ideas for choosing clothes and that, in part, she tends to have her wishes come true. This time, however, the manufacturers refused.

– They rejected what we had as a wish, says Alsgaard.

The sports hero has been open about his nerves and still spends a lot of time and energy worrying. The biggest fear is experiencing a “blackout”, something he thinks he had during the Viennese waltz two weeks ago.

– This ghost is on me all week. I am not in control in any way.

– But do you look calm and sober on TV?

– Yes, there are probably not as many emotions as they seem to me, answers the hope of the dance.

Alsgaard believes that exposure to what is scary is necessary to make it easier.

– But here the exposure is about a minute once a week. There is little to work with.

Alsgaard in «Bailamos»: Always said no for 16 years

Alsgaard has so far received a mixed reception from the judges, but viewers seem to be on his side. However, it is not considered a favorite of viewers.

– There are so many nice people, so many favorites. But I appreciate all the good comments that have come to me directly. I am humble and proud that it means something to many that I am with. The response from the audience last week was completely surreal. Very moving indeed.

Personal victory

Alsgaard is a competitor close at hand. The triumphs feature five Olympic golds, six World Cup golds and seven NM victories. Last year he won “71 degrees north: Norway’s toughest celebrity.”

But in “Skal vi danse” the competitive element is not the most important thing. The 48-year-old does not give him much prestige to move on. All the more it means challenging one’s limits.

– The challenge is that I am not a dancer, that I am not power dance, and that I never have. Instead, I have protected him like the plague. But viewers should know that I put my soul into this and want to learn as much as possible. Now it’s starting to be a lot of fun training, he says.
