Health Minister Bent Høie recently announced at Thursday’s press conference that we must continue to avoid greetings and pinches for a long time to prevent the spread of the infection.

Therefore, many were surprised when Olav Fykse Tveit (59) received a hand salute on Sunday and was chosen by Vice President Atle Sommerfeldt when Tveit was consecrated to the bishop and presided at Nidaros Cathedral.

“Hold my hand,” said Atle Sommerfeldt during the wedding.

Green light from the municipal superintendent
In the liturgy, one must make a promise in the form of a handshake, and one must pray with the laying on of hands.

– We discussed how this should be done, and we applied to the municipal superior here in Trondheim, which gave us the green light. We follow the advice on distance as much as possible and use antibac to prevent infections the short time we needed to be
in contact both before and after, says Olav Fykse Tveit.

– So this was approved by the infection control consultant?

– it was. We are confident that we took the precautions we could and used the infection control rules in general and the special conditions they gave us correctly, says Fykse Tveit.

Both the marriage and the inauguration were supposed to take place at the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim on April 26, but the crown pandemic caused this to be postponed until Sunday.
