Holund surprised by his teammate: – – It is not common to see him

Hegstad Krüger was number 38 in the 15km classic in Ruka on Saturday, nearly two minutes behind Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, who won.

– Is there something that does not work. I don’t have the speed from the start, I try to hang with Johannes when he grabs me, but he’s completely stopped. It’s going too fast, I have no chance, said Krüger clearly disappointed in an interview with NRK after the race.

At the digital press conference on Saturday night, his teammate Hans Christer Holund was asked if he had spoken to Krüger about the race fiasco.

– No, we live a little isolated and in different cabins. I looked at the charts he kept for ten kilometers, before wasting a minute at the end. I thought he had tried or something had happened. I don’t know the full reason for that, but it’s not common to see Simen that far down the list, Holund said of his teammate.

Krüger told NRK that he is not sure if he will go to the national race in Lillehammer next weekend, before the World Cup continues in Davos in two weeks.

– I’ll see, I have to find out what happens. There’s no point continuing on that track here, he told NRK.

– Going for the best time

Holund himself was in tenth place. Which means he’s too far back to interfere at the top when the minitour will be decided with a freestyle hunt start on Sunday.

– It’s going to be my best day. I hope to get on the field and fight for the best stage time, concluded Holund.

– Raw duel

The one who comes out on top is Klæbo. He is 26 seconds ahead of Aleksandr Bolshunov and 31 seconds ahead of Emil Iversen.

– I just have to open controlled and go to my own career. But I know there will be a Russian behind who will go hard to catch me, Klæbo said at the press conference.

Iversen and Klæbo shared the booth and screen during the digital press conference, happily showing the things they had bought as a warm-up for Sunday’s race for the press who had clicked.

Iversen is eager to be part of the match such as the victory in Ruka and a new duel with Bolshunov, who won the World Cup last season.

– It’s a pretty raw duel. There have been many tough matches, and some defeats against him from a distance. Now we have a golden opportunity, will we ever beat it? So it’s Sunday, smiled Iversen, who took a bitter fourth place on Saturday.
