Historically many cyclones

From night to Tuesday, there were five different cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean. It is the second time in world history that so many cyclones are active in the Atlantic Ocean at the same time, writes The Guardian.

These include Tropical Storm “Vicky”, Hurricane “Paulette”, Hurricane “Sally” and Tropical Storm “Teddy”. Tropical Storm “Rene” in the hours of Tuesday morning stopped being a tropical storm, and now it is just a storm. In the Pacific Ocean, Tropical Storm “Karina” is approaching the United States.

“Sally” is expected to arrive in the United States later that day. Louisiana and Mississippi residents have been told to evacuate, writes the US National Hurricane Center.

Warns against rain

In a video, the leader of the United States hurricane center warns that it is water that kills the most in such hurricanes. Therefore, ask people to be aware of heavy rains and storm surges.

According to the Washington Post, up to 60 cm of rain is expected as a result of “Sally.”

Spokesperson Cecilia Dobbs Walton in the port city of Biloxi, Mississippi, has a clear warning for city residents.

– Listen to the warnings. Prepare. You’ve been through this before. You’ve been through worse. Don’t let your guard down, she says, according to the Washington Post.

“Paulette” devastated

“Laura” rages in America – 14-year-old girl died

“Paulette” passed through the island state of Bermuda on Monday. According to the AP news agency, this is also one of the rarities.

Since the US hurricane center began to be numbered in the 1850s, fewer than ten hurricanes have struck the rich British territory.

The extent of the damage is still unclear as it is still dark and the weather is bad in the area, but trees and streamlines have fallen across the island.

– We have been through a very serious hurricane, says National Security Minister Renee Ming, according to AP.

Soon empty of name

The storms are listed in alphabetical order, with only one name left on this year’s list of storms in the Atlantic.

When the next storm hits, he will be called “Wilfred.” Storms after that will be named after the Greek letters. In other words, the storm after Wilfred will be called something as boring as “Alpha”.

According to the BBC, Greek letters have only been used in one hurricane season before, in the record year 2005. They then ended up with storm “Zeta” in December.

2005 was also the year that Category 5 hurricane “Katrina” caused massive damage in parts of the United States.
