Because inside the stadium and going out in the second and last round in classic style, it was dramatic.
– I didn’t really understand what happened. We get a little closer to each other. They got us out a bit because of the lead and hooked us, Johaug said of the crash after the end.
Johaug, at the head of the leadership group with the Swedes Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson and the Russian Tatjana Sorina, skating a little to the right. Outside, Karlsson arrived.
The Swede crossed the skis towards Johaug and the two collided. They both fell to the ground and Karlsson broke the stick.
– We started to fight a little
Jann Post and Torgeir Bjørn stated that it was Karlsson’s fault, who was too close.
– We probably started fighting a bit there, World Cup zeal or something, but the worst thing was that I broke the pole. I had to yell at the leaders a bit, but got a new one, Karlsson said of the collision after the race and continued:
– That is what happens. I tried to keep turning but it was like a sharp turn, yeah that’s what happens.
But an enthusiastic Johaug got to his feet, chased after Andersson who got away when the two fell, finally parked everything and everyone and secured his 11th World Cup in gold against Karlsson in silver and Andersson in bronze.
And when the Swedes reached the finish line, Johaug immediately went to talk to them.
– I was not pissed off, that’s what happens in a ski race, that they can get a little bit into each other. It’s a bit difficult to drive today, they are pulling me out a bit. I think both are wrong. At least I didn’t feel like it was my fault, Johaug said.
And that it was not his fault, Johaug receives support from Karlsson.
– It wasn’t anyone’s fault, and Teresa probably didn’t exactly want to fall either, said the Swede.
– he was very concentrated
Johaug’s gold came after a little ski change feat. Because in a double team with Andersson, they both entered the position where the new skis were. But the shift ended and out of the barn, Johaug got a hatch.
– You can win the second and lose the second in the ski change. He was very focused right there, Johaug said after the race.
And that the advantage that would finally decide the golden game came with the change of skiing, it was no accident.
– I practiced quite a bit on the ski change the other day, back and forth, and my lube filmed. I have my Lubricator to thank for that pep talk, because he chided me and said Johaug.
The gold winner took Andersson four seconds, who ultimately had to settle for the bronze medal.
– It was a very eventful race. First there was an incident with Frida and Therese, then I managed to joke about the ski change. The rod strap fell off when I tried to touch the rods. It was not a completely optimal finish to the race, but I’m glad it was a bronze medal, said the Swede after the finish.
