– I really don’t know how I feel. It’s a lot of fun, but I’m not sure what to say, Westvold Hansen said after the gold.

Never before have women competed in a championship. And in the debut, it was even a Norwegian triple.

Behind Westvold Hansen, the Leinan Lund sisters secured the silver and bronze medals.

– Is big. We wallpaper the palette on a day as big as this. This day we will remember the rest of our lives, said sports manager Ivar Stuan after the historic combined training.

– it was completely empty

But the battle for the medals behind the gold was not without drama. For the Leinan Lund sisters, Mari (21) and Marte (19), they fought an intense duel.

Little sister Mars seemed the strongest and got a hatch for big sister on the last hill, but then she fell.

Older sister Mari flew by and took the silver, while younger sister Mars provided triple Norwegian.

– I was completely empty, so in the last corner it was difficult to stay standing. It was completely black, little sister Leinan Lund said after the race and continued:

– I was afraid of losing the medal. You see I’m getting stressed there. I spent ten seconds getting up. But I saved the bronze and it exceeded expectations.

And for the older sister, it was a denomination on the medal that she had not imagined.

– It was a somewhat unexpected silver medal, but I am very happy that Mars achieved third place. It tasted very good. Silver is above all expectations, said the 21-year-old.

Next Olympics

On December 18, the first women’s World Cup combined race took place in Ramsau, Austria. That race was won by American Tara Geraghty-Moats (27).

Due to the corona pandemic, no more combined trainings have been conducted for women. But just over three months after the first historic event, Westvold Hansen became historic.

Now the combined team has its eyes set on another championship.

– The next thing is to take them to the 2026 Olympics. Then we will go to the WC in Planica, then it will be the WC in Trondheim. It will be completely unique, Stuan said after the race.

And Saturday’s gold winner is aware that the time has come for women to team up at an Olympics.

– In fact, I think that the level of all the girls is quite high considering that it is such a new sport. There are so many different nations that are good, invested in. So I think it will eventually be a very smooth and exciting fight.
