Helgheim is the spokesperson for immigration policy and the parliamentary representative for Frp.
It was this weekend that it emerged that Helgheim lost the battle for safe first place on the Buskerud Frp parliamentary list.
In that place is now the name of the parliamentary representative and spokesman for the party’s defense policy, Morten Wold. He won by 23 to 17 votes.
The reason that what in Helgheim’s eyes should be a simple nomination process ended in rejection, Helgheim says, is because it comes from Drammen:
– And then there were several from the Hallingdal area who thought there were too many of Drammen on the list, and they started a riot. They themselves did not want to be on this list. And then there weren’t that many left to choose from from the districts, but they didn’t agree that there were too many from Drammen, Helgheim says in Politisk kvarter Tuesday morning.
– Too much foul play in politics
That Gol’s home team, and later other home teams, protested the lack of non-Drammen players on the roster was the reason Wold came in and left himself, according to Helgheim.
– You said that you have not followed foul play well, what do you think then?
– I have a very busy job with immigration policy for FRP, where something happens all the time. Also, I have traveled the country and the beach and visited almost every local team that we have in this country.
– What is dirty?
– What is dirty is to initiate a process against me while I am busy doing my work and create some falsehoods about what has moved, and what should happen and what has happened. These are things I don’t do. There are too many dirty games in politics, I’ve been busy doing my job and some have probably put it to good use, says Helgheim.
Since the outcome of the nomination campaign was known, the other party has indicated that it was an ordinary process.
Wold denies allegations of foul play
Morten Wold did not want to participate in Politisk kvarter on Tuesday, but in Drammens Tidende rejected the allegation of foul play. He also does this for NRK on Tuesday:
– There are several of us who have worried about doing our job. I refrained from participating in Politisk kvarter, no one has done any foul play. This has been a completely normal nomination process, where some have worked for their candidacy and others for mine. I won by a clear margin, Wold tells NRK.
– I reject any accusation of foul play. That’s not my style and I don’t have it. Beyond that, I have no comment, he says.
But Helgheim believes the reactions he has received afterwards indicate that those who voted against him disagreed that Helgheim could be removed from the list and run for election next year.
– They have later stated that they are surprised, surprised, sad and sad about what happened. And it is special to have finished that it was how you voted then, he says.
Does not exclude rematch
The Storting representative does not rule out that there may be a rematch for first place:
– I do what the party wants me to do, and now I have to concentrate on looking forward and doing my job properly, says Helgheim, adding that it does not “exclude the things of the world.”
Drammens Tidende political editor Hege Breen Bakken says Helgheim could have gotten first place, if the other names on the list came from outside of Drammen. According to Bakken, it has been a completely normal process at Buskerud Frp.
The debate between city and country has been a theme in all the nomination processes of the different parties in Buskerud, he says.
– But the fact that he struck harder in the party than perhaps to a minimal degree emphasizes gender, age and geography when ranking candidates, probably surprised many. Not least in Drammen Frp, which has obviously underestimated the mind that has been built on the districts, says in Politisk kvarter.
