He believes that Trump should be investigated: – This has been requested

– This is a very demanding situation, says Hans Olav Lahlum, US expert from TV 2.

When the approval of the presidential election result began, Trump supporters broke through the barricades in front of the Congress building. They got inside the building and Vice President Mike Pence had to be evacuated to safety.

– It is difficult to find words for what we see now. You are speechless, it’s hard to believe what you see. There have been demonstrations in Washington before, but they have not broken into Congress before. I have to say, I’m a bit upset, says American commentator Thor Steinhovden.

– What is happening now bothers and saddens me. We can never reverse this. This has something to do with democracy in the United States, he says.

– Must be accountable

The senators will be held Wednesday night in a lockdown inside the building.

– There is only one way out of this, and that is to hold Trump accountable. You must be investigated for this, to see what responsibility you have. He has started this, says Eirik Bergesen.

Among other things, Trump has written on Twitter that “see you in Washington on January 6,” and has made repeated calls to fight an electoral result that he considers false.

– He is the person with the most power in the whole world, and these are the consequences of his words, his actions. The question now is whether he will be able to stay for the next two weeks, says Bergsen.

American expert Hilmar Mjelde also believes Trump is neglecting himself as president on Wednesday.

– One of the most important things you commit to when you take office is to protect democracy. American democracy is now under attack. Right now, the United States doesn’t have a president, he tells TV 2.

White nationalists

Bergesen believes Democrats will now come forward with a proposal for Trump to be removed as president in recent weeks, and that they can use the constitutional amendment that the incumbent president must be fit for office.

Now they are in the process of contributing to this coup attempt, and that’s what you get when you play with this kind of force, says Bergesen.

Lahlum is not sure if they will reach a Supreme Court case in two weeks.

– But it is clear that this is very demanding, he says.

Another thing that stands out as special is that many of those now in action in Washington are supposed to be white nationalists.

– It’s unusual for a sitting president to support this site, and now we can see how badly it’s going, says Hilde Restad, US TV2 commentator and associate professor at Bjørknes Høyskole.

She says it’s disappointing on behalf of America.

– There was optimism in the United States when Barack Obama was elected president. Now we go back to the white men who are trying to take power, says Reistad.

Lahlum says that what is happening in the United States is shocking.

– Maybe it shouldn’t have been so surprising, because this has been a powder keg for a long time, he says.
