It became clear after Lars Lagerbäck presented the squad that will play the European Championship playoffs against Serbia on October 8, in addition to the national league matches against Romania and Northern Ireland. All three games are played at the Ullevaal Stadium.
– It is clear that when you are selected for the national A team for the first time, you will be surprised and it is incredibly great, says Hauge at a press conference in Aspmyra after the selection.
– I’ve played for Norway since I was 15 guys and I’ve been moving up to the A national team. And finally getting eliminated where it means a lot.
Huge development
Hauge has played for the Under-21 team since last year, but this is the first time he has been selected for the A team.
– It has had a huge development this season, says Lagerbäck about Hauge.

– Hauge’s strong point is a one-on-one situation. It can go both right and left and has speed. It is your x factor.
As well as Hauge, Coventry player Leo Skiri Østigård (20) is also new to the team. Due to the corona pandemic, 26 players have been selected for the next three international matches:
– I should have been a little younger
In addition to an oversized squad, it is also unusual for Lagerbäck for players to be eliminated for three national team matches.
– We are not used to a team for three games, so it will be a bit special, says Lagerbäck.
But the team maintains a high standard, and the 72-year-old national team coach should have been a couple of years younger to be able to lead the national team further.
– One should have been a little younger and could have been a few more years. Because this is a tribe that lasts for ten years, and that today everything is at a very high level. But one comes out too late, as usual.

Milan has shown interest
Newcomer Hauge has been one of Bodø / Glimt’s great players this season, and after the Europa League match at San Siro, AC Milan have shown interest in the 20-year-old.
– I know there is contact. They liked what they saw when we met them and they liked what they saw before. We almost have to see what happens. They play a type of soccer that I might enjoy. It is an exciting opportunity that must be taken seriously and considered, Hauge told NRK on Sunday.
And the pressure will hardly be less after the selection of the national team.
– Of course it’s fun. This is how my daily life has become, in the last few months after I said no to Belgium, Hauge says after Monday’s withdrawal.
The other newcomer to the national team, Østigård, is on loan to Coventry from Brighton.
The biggest game awaiting this squad is the Eurocup playoff – the match of destiny – against Serbia on October 8. This is followed by national league matches against Romania on October 11 and against Northern Ireland on October 14.
