Markus Henriksen (28) is ready to return to Rosenborg after several years abroad. The club announces that it will likely make its debut in the Europa League play-off against PSV next week.

Rosenborg reports this on the club’s website Sunday night.

– I am very proud to be able to play for the club again in my heart, and I look forward to the challenges that come, says Markus Henriksen in the press release on the club pages.

He says that the club choice has been a difficult decision for him lately.

– I’ll be honest in saying that when I said no to more games at Bristol City, I didn’t think Rosenborg would be the next destination. But the longer it took and after many conversations with Micke and Åge, I felt really loved in Rosenborg. Also, we’ve had several family councils who finally found Trondheim to be nice to stay, says Henriksen.

Henriksen now joins a club that has signed up for the Elite Series main match:

Today’s two-goal scorer against Aalesund, Kristoffer Zachariassen, places a new teammate and a new competitor in all three midfield spots at RBK.

– Class player. It will raise the quality of the training sessions, the quality of the match and the individual players. A really good signing. Of course, it will be a tougher battle for a place in midfield, but that’s exactly how it should be in Rosenborg, says Zachariassen.

Åge Hareide declined to comment on Henriksen when he was in the press area at the Color Line Stadium.

– I don’t have a phone at the bank, you know, Hareide says she was going to call Dorsin while driving to Molde on Sunday night.

Henriksen says he said no to very good deals. He notes that he is highly motivated to play in the RBK jersey again. When he returns, Trond Henriksen, his father, is back on the club’s technical team.

This is how RBK presented the signing on Twitter:

Sporting director Mikael Dorsin, who has previously been Henriksen’s teammate, says he is very pleased with Henriksen’s return.

– We are very happy about that. Markus is high class both as a guy and as a player. He’s a Rosenburger, he’s a regular on the national team, and he’s kind of a leader. It is a very good sign that he will come here to help improve the team and the club, says Dorsin in the press release.

Last winter it was clear that Per Ciljan Skjelbred, another of the club’s long-time heroes, would be returning to the club this season. He stood in front of Sunday’s game.

The club has now called a press conference on Monday at 10 am.

Markus Henriksen played for Rosenborg in 2009-2012 and has 118 appearances for the club. Now Henriksen says he is looking forward to playing with Åge Hareide, who also returned to Rosenborg this fall, a club where he also coached in 2003.

Since he was last in Rosenborg, Henriksen has played for AZ Dutch before going to Hull in England. He has been without a club since last summer after being loaned out at Bristol City when English football was disrupted by the crown epidemic.
