One of the best in the world

Sergej Demidov is the father of former national soccer team player Vadim Demidov and has made a name for himself as a feared goalscorer for Sandefjord HK in the early 1990s and between 1994 and 1996 he coached Kragerø IF.

He was also a player for the Soviet Union national handball team and was considered in his prime as one of the best handball players in the world. Later he moved to Norway and became a Norwegian citizen.

He later worked as a player developer for both the Norwegian youth national team and the senior national team and has also had a role as a sports manager at Norges Toppidrettsgymnas (NTG).

The Russian Handball Federation writes the following about Demidov in his case:

“The Russian Handball Federation may announce the death of a prominent handball player and coach, Sergei Demidov. He was only 59 years old.

Huge impact in Norway

The association writes about Demidov’s career in the club teams Celtnieks Riga and MAI Moscow, before it is also mentioned that he later went to Norway to play and train.

“Then he became one of our first players abroad. In Norway, Sergej proved not only a player, but also a coach. He has worked with professional clubs and youth teams and had a great impact on the development of handball in the country. ..
