Greta Thunberg Mills against Denmark

On Thursday night, a majority in the Folketing decided that Denmark will not start new exploration drilling in the North Sea, and that oil extraction will be completely phased out by 2050.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is still not completely satisfied.

She comments on the decision as follows Twitter Friday:

“The real news here is that Denmark will apparently continue to extract fossil fuels for another three decades. For us children, this is not the ‘good news’ that some people seem to believe. We are in a climate emergency.Thunberg writes.

The oil shutdown was well received by Danish climate activists.

– We are in the middle of a climate crisis, where during the next decades we will achieve significant cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. So obviously there is no point in shutting ourselves up to search for fossil fuels harmful to the North Sea climate, says President Maria Reumert Gjerding of the Danish Society for Conservation of Nature to the DR.

Denmark is the largest oil producer in the EU, but ranks 40th internationally. Since extraction began in 1972, the Danish treasury has earned 541 billion Danish crowns in the oil business, NTB writes.
