Tiger Woods (45) has been taken to hospital after crashing on Tuesday afternoon Norwegian time. The agent says in a statement that the golf star is undergoing surgery for several leg injuries.
Los Angeles police wrote in a statement that Tiger Woods was injured in a car accident Tuesday morning around 7:12 a.m. local time. This corresponds to 4:12 PM Norwegian time. The golf star is said to have crashed on the border between Rolling Hills Estates and Ranchos Palos Verdes near Los Angeles in California.
– Tiger Woods was in a car accident in California earlier today, where he suffered multiple leg injuries. It is currently being operated. We are grateful for all the support, says a statement from Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg to GolfDigest.
The golfer was the only person in the car. No other vehicle was involved in the accident.
Woods had to be rescued from the wrecked car. Rescuers used a hydraulic tool to retrieve the golf star from the damaged vehicle.
The 45-year-old man was later taken to hospital. The extent of the damage is currently unknown. Photos from the site show that the vehicle has rolled over on its side and there is significant damage in various places on the car. The accident is being investigated further by local police.

Woods has two sons, Sam Alexis and Charlie Axel, along with his ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

Woods was present during the PGA The Genesis Invitational tournament this weekend, co-organizing his own foundation. GolfDigest magazine writes that the golfer, among other things, has been on the course together with basketball player Dwyane Wade and actor David Spade, gifting golf courses to other celebrities. Woods did not play himself as he is struggling with a back injury and is still training.
He has not played a tournament since November last year. The superstar declared on the weekend that he hoped to make it to the Masters tournament in April.
– God, I hope so. Much depends on the surgeons, doctors and therapists, and that they do everything right. This is the only endorsement I have, Woods said.
Norwegian Viktor Hovland finished fifth in this weekend’s tournament.
This is not the first time Woods has been in a car accident. He ended up in the hospital after a car accident after a turbulent period in his relationship with Sweden’s Elin Nordegren in 2009. After revelations of infidelity, Nordegren and the children moved out of the couple’s luxurious Florida villa. The two were married from 2004 to 2010.
In May 2017, he was arrested when he was found sleeping behind the wheel in an impaired condition while the car was idling. He is said to have ingested marijuana and various prescription drugs, for which he was sentenced to one year of probation after admitting guilty to dangerous driving.
