Mark Esper fears who will take over as US Secretary of Defense after President Trump fired him on Monday.
After several disagreements between them, Trump decided to fire Esper on Monday. While thanking Esper for his services, he announced that Christopher C. Miller will temporarily assume the post of Secretary of Defense.
In an interview with the Military Times, Esper does not hide that there have been disagreements between him and the White House on several occasions.
– Have you ever seen me on stage say, “Under the exceptional leadership of blah-blah-blah, we have blah-blah-blah,” he says in the interview, adding that he is frustrated because no one over 18 members of the government cabinet dare to speak out against the president.

Explain that Trump is a very determined man.
– I can only control what I do. The president is very clear about what he wants to say. I’m not just trying to please everyone. What I am trying to do is fulfill his wishes, he has been chosen as the supreme leader and make the best of it.
Esper notes that this is about choosing your parties, and that there are many things you could discuss with the president.
– Who will take care of me? It’s going to be a true yes-man, and then: God help us, he says.
Speculation that Esper could be fired has been around for some time. Several Defense Department officials confirmed to CNN that Esper had a long-standing resignation letter in store and that he hoped Trump would pay attention to it after the election.
When asked directly if he was considering firing Esper, Trump responded in August:
– I always consider kicking everyone. At some point, that is what is happening.
