According to The Guardian, the Ever Given ship is 400 meters long and weighs 220,000 tons.

The Suez Canal, located in Egypt, is 190 km long, 24 meters deep and about 205 meters wide. It connects the Mediterranean with the Red Sea and is the fastest route between Europe and Asia by sea.

According to Cairo News, the container ship is now at an angle of about 45 degrees across the canal, thus blocking traffic between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

Julianne Cona has posted a photo of the situation on Instagram, taken aboard the Maersk Denver freighter. They followed right behind Ever Given on his journey through the Suez Canal.

– Hopefully it won’t take too long, but it seems that the ship is stuck, he writes.

The Suez Canal is described as one of the world’s most important arteries for shipping, and now several cargo ships are in line, he writes ABC.

Several feverish attempts have been made to free the ship and the Egyptian port authorities have dispatched cranes, tugs and excavators.

According to Cairo24, the ship can block traffic on the important canal for “at least two days,” NTB writes.

According to the news website, it was an engine failure that caused the boat to roll off course, get stuck, and now get stuck in the mud, NTB writes.

The ship is owned by the Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen and is registered in Panama. It was en route from the Chinese port of Ningbo to Rotterdam in the Netherlands, according to the Vesselfinder website, which monitors ship traffic.

The ship left the port of Tawfiq on Monday night, writes Africa Times.

According to Cairo News, the accident is due to a technical failure on the freighter. According to a source with whom the newspaper has spoken on the channel, it may take at least two days to correct the error and get the ship back down.
