Fur animals, Fur | The state pushes Kristian and Julie into a nightmare: – I get so mad.

– This is one of the issues we address. That’s not the way to have it, says Frp’s fur general, Morten Ørsal Johansen.

In 2013, young couple Kristian (36) and Julie (32) Erbs bought a farm in Nissedal in Telemark to start fur production. They completely renovated the farm and tried hard to be the best. After four years, they traveled to Denmark to continue their education on one of the most important fur farms in the world. But only a few months after his departure, the message came from the politicians: his industry was going to be banned.

Since the couple had no animals in Norway as of January 15, 2018, they will not receive a penny in compensation from the state. Thus, the couple is left with five million crowns in debt and without securities.

– It’s an absolutely terrible situation. We will spend the rest of our lives paying debts, Julie Erbs told Nettavisen.

Prepare for battle

A week ago, the government presented the new compensation proposal to farmers. But even in this round, the couple was not included in the compensation. Morten Ørsal Johansen of the Progress Party has decided to fight a tough fight in the Storting.

– It is so stupid that it makes me nauseous, says Ørsal Johansen to Nettavisen and adds:

– He’s completely idiotic. There must be exceptions for those who were not driving at that particular time. This couple invested several million and went to continue their education. Nobody thinks they should leave the industry.

Expect a tough battle in the Storting if the government does not change the bill before the Storting considers it.

– I’m very surprised they didn’t get the signals from the Storting. But it is the Storting that decides, and I am hopeful that we will get a good solution, he says.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food, responsible for the law, does not want to comment on the situation of Kristian and Julie Erb. They are waiting for a response to the round of inquiries.

– Will it be tough against tough at the Storting?

– Yes, it must necessarily be. It will surprise me that the governing parties do not help to find the best possible solution. I think there is a lot of support in the Storting for precisely that.

The Center Party has also made it clear that they want a much better plan for fur producers.

Clear message to Trine Skei Grande

Ørsal Johansen says the fur industry ban has been the biggest defeat he has experienced in his 12 years at the Storting. But there is one politician who angers him even more, and that is former liberal leader Trine Skei Grande.

In his recently published book, he describes the fur ban as “a test” in negotiations with the bourgeois parties.

– When I see those posts, I get so pissed off. They are very difficult to talk about humanity and constantly say that the FRP is “inhumane”, for example in immigration policy. So you do something like that. Then you should just shut up. I mean it, he tells Nettavisen.

– When you taste people’s lives that way, then you should have the common sense to shut up. Then you are heartbroken.

The online newspaper has been trying for nine days to get comment from Trine Skei Grande. She does not want to answer questions about whether the farmers’ compensation plan fits what she wanted in the negotiations.
