Fresh Asker Mats Hildisch (18) has been diagnosed with a spinal cord injury that has led to paralysis after a match this weekend.
Frisk Asker confirms in a press release that the 18-year-old Frisk player underwent surgery at Ullevål hospital on Sunday night and that after extensive examinations, a permanent spinal cord injury has been shown to lead to paralysis.
– Mats will remain in Ullevål hospital next week and will then be transferred to Sunnaas hospital for rehabilitation, the press release said.
It was in an under-21 game this weekend that Hildisch was injured after a collision with the goal. The game was interrupted after the incident and the player was sent to Ullevål hospital.
– At Frisk Asker we sympathize with Mats and the family and we will do our best to be there and support those in the future, the club writes.
– The most important thing for Mats now is to be able to rest in order to use all his strength and energy during the hard rehabilitation period that awaits him. The family is touched and enormously grateful for all the warmth and support they have received from the entire hockey family.
The family now asks for peace and quiet.
Hildisch is from Asker and has played for the mother club all his life. He was on the Frisk Askers A-team roster in the game against Vålerenga on 8 October, but had no playing time. Hildisch was also selected for the U-18 team in January this year.
