– We have more now with an unknown infection route, there are more that are in that category. And what the Fredrikstad municipality is going to do now is establish a red level in upper secondary schools and upper secondary schools from Tuesday inclusive, says Mayor Jon-Ivar Nygård (Labor).

The fact that schools get a red score means that there will be stricter rules on how many people can be in a cohort. There will also be even stricter rules for cleaning and dividing into groups.

The municipality of Fredrikstad met urgently tonight for a press conference. The municipality also recommends that basic sports and leisure activities for those over twelve years of age be suspended from Saturday, November 21 to December 4.

– It is the case that, unfortunately, we also have to close or strongly recommend that you do not engage in leisure activities. And that will be applied later to grassroots sports, but that does not apply to younger children, but from the age of twelve.

30 percent of the new cases in the municipality have an unknown infection route. The municipality no longer has a complete description of where the infection originated.

– It is a more serious situation than the one we have had so far. It is a prerequisite for being able to handle a pandemic that we can trace the infection and that we can frame outbreaks to attack, Nygård says.

It says there is an increased risk of a major outbreak in the city.

The infection can be transmitted to many more

– Now we want all leisure activities for people over twelve to take a two week break, simply to prevent cross-border infection, especially from sources of infection that are now unknown, says municipal chief physician Sofie Lund Danielsen .

In addition, he says that in recent days the municipality has heard several stories from infected people for just over a week before staying home and getting tested.

This is especially true for younger people with mild and sometimes transient symptoms.

– This means that we are in a situation where we can no longer say that we have a good overview. We have several who may have contracted an infection that we are not aware of, and it may have already spread to many more, says Lund Danielsen.

Several outbreaks in recent weeks

In recent weeks, more than 300 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in the city of Østfold. There have been outbreaks in three groups.

Gudeberg’s school was closed, after several cases of infection were detected. In addition, there have been outbreaks of infection in a sports association and in connection with visits of condolences in the Somali community in the city.

The number of infections decreased slightly, before 23 infections were detected on Thursday. The municipality worked throughout the night monitoring infections.
