For almost 30 years, she was the soccer player who never dreamed of becoming a professional. He then quit his job and bought a one-way ticket to Madrid.

DIt’s New Years Day and Ingrid Moe Wold goes through the security checkpoint at Gardermoen. Suddenly, you win what you have accepted.

Moving from Norway. Of the cohabitants. The apartment at Sandaker in Oslo. Work as a physical therapist.

And no less important to his beloved LSK women.

The queen of lillestrøm

About Frode Kippe in the last decade has been “Mr. LSK,” Wold has been “Mrs. TSI” in many ways.

He joined the club in 2009 when it was called Team Strømmen. After being renamed, she played LSK Women’s first official match at the Toppserien Away against Kattem on April 5, 2010.

Since then, he has played 195 consecutive league games for the club. On October 21, 2018, more than eight years after the club’s first game, LSK’s first women’s game in history was played without Wold on the field.

“I have been very fortunate to have played for the best club in Norway in recent years and have had a fantastic ten years,” she says.

The journey into the unknown.

Maybe it was the memories of six straight golds that sat like a small lump in his stomach when he sat down with a one-way ticket to Madrid’s New Year’s Day.

Perhaps it was the certainty that she would actually earn less for being a full-time soccer player than for the combination of footballer and physical therapist.

Maybe he was nervous about going to a new club in a city he had never been to before.

– I really think that both I and the cohabitant had repressed it a bit. Just don’t think so much about that day. So all of a sudden I just stood there and had to move. It was actually heavier than I thought, he admits.

– I didn’t know what I was doing at all. It is very different from me, but I do not regret it.

At the Madrid airport, she was received by the president of her new club, Madrid CFF. This is one of the four Madrid-based clubs in the Women’s First Division. Eventually, he moved to a soccer team with two teammates.

– Then it was on. There was no going back.

Eight years after the national team’s debut and just a few weeks before she turned 30, for the first time in her career, she was a foreign soccer professional.

The dream that she didn’t have

A dream for most soccer players had come true, but not necessarily a dream for Ingrid Moe Wold.

– I have not had that need before, answer questions about why you went abroad the year you turned 30.

– I feel like I have lived the dream at LSK even though I had to work next door. I really enjoy the program. One is different. Some are ready for that early. I felt ready when I was almost 30 years old, she explains.

It was only during this summer’s World Cup final that Wold knew for the first time that a stay abroad could be interesting. In the course of ten years in Lillestrom, he had seen many players disappear abroad.

That season alone, major pieces like Guro Reiten and Ingrid Syrstad Engen disappeared for Chelsea and Wolfsburg respectively.

– I felt that “south, I should have tried something else too”. At the World Cup I met some of the best offensive soccer players in the forest. Then I felt that I would like to challenge myself more.

She certainly wasn’t. But after being “pushed” a little home by the partner, the choice fell on Madrid. Finally, he signed a short-term contract that expires on May 31.

– It was really trying it too. Then it became very short.

Coincidentally in Norway under the crown

There were only eight games for Wold in Madrid before the situation surrounding the crown situation closed all sports also in Spain. The last, a 0-5 loss to Caroline Graham Hansens Barcelona on March 1.

The next day was the game for the Algarve Cup with the national team, and since then Wold has not seen his teammates beyond joint training on the Internet at 13.00 every day.

Coincidentally, the Spanish league wanted a game-free weekend after the Algarve Cup. Along with Hansen, among others, Wold chose to go home to Norway over the weekend.

– We got home on Wednesday (March 11). On Thursday we were told that we were in quarantine and locked up in Norway for 14 days. And then it escalated.

Coach at Ullevaal

Today she is glad that she chose to go home and not return to Spain. The Americans and Cameroonians with whom Wold lives in Madrid are now in their second month of “confinement.”

In Norway, they have started to open up a bit. Along with the other foreign professionals Joshua King, Mats Møller Dæhli, Caroline Graham Hansen and Cecilie Hauståker Fiskerstrand, she recently had the opportunity to train at Ullevaal.

Although few, Wold describes the workouts as “really fun.”

– That mat is completely cherished and gives it an extra boost of motivation. I really feel very lucky to have that opportunity. And that now I am in Norway.

I have a taste of professional life.

It may be here for a while as a result of the crown situation. The defeat against Barcelona could also have been their last match in Madrid. No one knows when soccer will start again. In Spain, it has been said that the 2019 2020 season for women should be canceled entirely.

– I always had a strong desire to complete the season there and demonstrate that I have accomplished what I got there. It was to help them save space.

But in about a month the contract with the club expires. And the Norwegian national team player does not hide that she imagined the existence of Madrid as a springboard for another club.

– In a way, I was hoping it would show more, she says.

And she too. Two months of concentration on himself and on soccer have given positive results on the soccer field.

Several offers have come, and again the discussion with the co-worker goes home to his apartment in Sandaker.

– I have a good feeling for one of the offers that is very tempting. I bet he will, he says secretly.

During two months of professional life abroad he has brought an added flavor to the dream that he never really had.
