Cross-country skier Ingvild Flugstad Østberg (30) will not go cross-country skiing next season. Write the Ski Association in a press release.
The health team of the cross country team has decided that Ingvild Flugstad Østberg will not participate in competitions next season.
Oppland Arbeiderblad and TV 2 were the first to report on the case. The Norwegian Ski Federation now confirms the same information in a press release.
Østberg is fully committed to the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
– Ingvild Flugstad Østberg still needs time to be able to endure the training and competition program. Rehabilitation consists of a follow-up with the coaches, physiotherapists, doctors and nutritionists of the national teams, writes the Norwegian Ski Association in the press release.
– I will work to get back to what gives me the best energy in the world, racing on skis, adjusting training and making sure the nutritional intake is good enough over time. I have decided that I will manage, she says herself.

– Our common goal is for Ingvild to be back on the slopes for the Olympic season, says medical officer Øystein Andersen of the Norwegian Cross Country Ski Association. She adds that she is followed by both cross-country skiing and the Olympiatoppen health team.
Just before the start of the season last year, Flugstad Østberg said he had been denied the start for health reasons. In both March and July, he suffered fatigue fractures to his ankle.
– It’s sad that such a good athlete would be forced to participate in such a long competition break, says Jann Post, NRK cross-country commentator.

– He had a turbulent season last year, when he did well in the middle, but then ended with a dull one. A fatigue fracture typically takes six to seven to eight weeks to heal, but there have obviously been significant problems here.
– Of course, it is a shame that Ingvild cannot compete in a World Cup season, but health must come first, says Jann Post, who emphasizes that Østberg is better off returning when he is 100 percent again.
– Then you can focus back on becoming the best skier in the world. It is not possible without being 100 percent healthy.
Ingvild Flugstad Østberg turned 30 earlier this week.
