“If we cannot meet their needs, it will lead to a famine pandemic that could be worse than COVID,” Beasley said.
The WFP chief had previously warned that famine “knocks on a dozen doors” around the world and that next year will likely be the worst year of humanitarian crisis in 75 years.
Beasley believes that we are faced with one of the most ironic moments in modern history.
On the one hand, after a century of massive advances in eliminating extreme poverty, today millions of our neighbors are on the brink of starvation. On the other hand, there are 400 trillion dollars in wealth in our world today. And we only need $ 5 billion to save 30 million lives from famine.
