On Thursday it was known that Petter Northug is accused of having stored six grams of cocaine, 0.65 grams of MDMA and five tablets at his home, in addition to drug use and violation of the Traffic Law.
– Petter has pleaded guilty to all counts of the charge. That’s why we got this streamlined treatment on Monday, Northug’s defender Halvard Helle told Dagbladet Tuesday afternoon.
Northug is charged with five counts:
- According to the Road Traffic Law for rough driving, use of mobile phones in the car and negligent driving
- under the Criminal Code for the storage of drugs
- under the Medicines Act for the use of drugs.
There are four cases of rough driving on three different dates. At most, Northug is said to have reached a maximum speed of 221 kilometers per hour in zone 80, according to the indictment.

Attorney Mette Yvonne Larsen emphasizes that she does not want to prejudge Northug, but asserts on the basis that Northug has pleaded guilty to all charges.
In total, he believes Northug will have to serve between six and twelve months in unconditional prison.

Defender Helle has received a number of proposals in this case.
– I want to comment on the sentence in court. It is the Oslo District Court that will decide on the sentence on Monday, he tells Dagbladet.
Larsen emphasizes that the substances in question – cocaine, MDMA and tablets containing the central depressant drugs diazepam and alprazolam – are dangerous narcotics.
Diazepam and alprazolam belong to the group of benzodiazepines and are used to treat anxiety disorders. They are found in drugs such as Valium and Xanor, respectively.
– It is much more serious than, for example, hashish. I would think that one has between 30 and 60 days to take the medicine.

– Speed is the most dangerous. It is simply a crime against the public in a completely different way than drug storage.
The indictment states that Northug drove several times “in the opposite lane while filming and constantly commenting on his own driving.” The described driving posed a great danger for him and the other road users ”, he continues.
– There are several criminal offenses and the penalty limit increases. Driving in the opposite direction is very dangerous.
It does not ignore a sentence of up to one year in unconditional prison.
– Also because he has previously been convicted of similar crimes. Drug offenses are generally punishable more severely than speeding offenses, but when the speed is this high, the potential danger is so great, and there are various conditions, I think the court will take it more seriously.
However, he adds that the confession will likely lead to some discount on the fine.
