The corona pandemic left soccer stars alone in their own homes. FaceTime and a personal trainer were among the rescue of Erling Braut Haaland.

ULLEVAAL STADION (Nettavisen): Because after the entire soccer league came to a halt in mid-March, players were almost locked in their own homes as the coronavirus ravaged Europe.

For a long time it was unknown when football would start again, so players had to stay physically active, without being able to use the support equipment or the club’s facilities.

It was an experience that Erling Braut Halaand had never had before.

– It was new to all of us. You are not used to being suddenly at home in the living room 24 hours a day, the forward told Nettavisen during the national team press conference ahead of the Nations League game against Austria.

Hans Dortmund were one of the first teams in Europe to resume the soccer league with a 4-0 win over Schalke on 16 May.

Before that, the Norwegian national team striker and his teammates had been hanging around for several weeks without knowing when or if they would start again.

This meant that he had to think of new things when it came to training.

– You have to start thinking more creatively and you have to look at things in a positive way. As if you have a house to be in, because not everyone has it. I was fine during that period. I trained well, says Haaland.

Creativity and technology meant, among other things, that Jærbuen brought in external forces to help him stay in shape.

The 20-year-old collaborated with personal trainer Lucas Kruel on FaceTime.

Kruel has players like Rafinha (formerly Bayern Munich), Douglas Costa (Juventus) and Thiago linked to Liverpool on the client list, and he also did some training sessions with Haaland during the crown lock.

Because while the use of a personal trainer is not special in and of itself, it is a bit more unusual that the session needs to be taken via video streaming over the phone.

The Norwegian national team forward says the Brazilian was one of two personal trainers he used earlier this year.

– There was a lot of FaceTime in those days. I felt that I benefited and that I was better equipped for it, he explains.

Kruel himself has posted a photo from a shoot he ran with Haaland in April.

– Good week with training, thanks for the trust, brother. Let’s keep going, Kruel wrote on Instagram.

The online newspaper has contacted Kruel, who is not available for an interview about his work.

Looking for his first goal in the national team

For Haaland, now it is the national team that applies.

A strict regime, which means that none of the players can leave the hotel in Storo for infection control reasons, means that the Nations League deal against Austria can be terminated.

On Monday, the young man met with the press together with the director of the national team, Lars Lagerbäck, before the agreement on Friday.

Haaland has a total of 80 minutes for the A national team in two games (Malta and Sweden), but without goals. That zero you hope to break.

If he scores in the future, the 20-year-old recognizes that it will be a special moment.

– Yes I think so. “I have not planned any kind of celebration, so I have to try to take it spontaneously,” Haaland tells NTB.

He is very clear on his task in the battles that now await him.

– I am a forward and I will try to score points for the national team. Of course I will do everything I can to score goals, he says.
