Erling Braut Haaland (20) has played his last match in 2020, says the Norwegian’s coach.
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that the Norwegian will lose Wednesday’s game against Lazio with a muscle injury.
– Haaland can’t play until January. It is very unfortunate. He didn’t look so bad at first, but maybe he’s played too many games lately, Norwegian coach Lucien Favre tells German Sky.
According to ESPN it’s a cumulative injury, meaning Haaland won’t be back until after the winter break in Germany.
Even before Saturday’s game against FC Cologne, Dortmund coach Lucien Favre said he wanted to give Haaland a break as soon as possible due to the heavy match load.
Bild writes that the Norwegian complained of a muscle injury in the last training session before the game against Lazio. Thorgan Hazard replaces the 20-year-old from Jæren, who has scored 17 of Dortmund’s 37 total goals so far this season.
Dad Alfie Haaland and Borussia Dortmund press manager Sascha Fligge have not responded to VG’s questions.
Haaland is the top scorer in this season’s Champions League tournament with six goals. Since he appeared after the national team hiatus in November, he has been in great shape. He scored four goals against Hertha Berlin and two against Club Brugge before, on rare occasions, he left the field goalless this weekend.
Now he may lose several games in Dortmund’s hectic pre-Christmas program.
Eintracht Frankfurt (away) awaits the weekend, before the away game against Zenit in Saint Petersburg in the Champions League. Then league games against Stuttgart (h), Bremen (b) and Union Berlin (b). The last game before the new year will be the away game against Eintracht Braunschweig in the second round of the cup, on 22 December.
The first game after winter break is against Mainz on January 16.
