Epic Store requires two-factor authentication if you want to play for free

Players who want to take advantage of the many free offers from the Epic Games Store will now have to secure their account a little better. Until May 21, the online store will require you to use two-factor authentication before you can retrieve any of the free games.

With 2-factor authentication, players are required to enter a randomly generated security code for each login, reducing the chance of others entering without permission. Through its website, Epic explains that the goal is simply to make players more aware of the steps they can take to secure their account.

If you have not yet enabled two-factor authentication, you can do so through your Epic account settings. On the company website you will find a guide to guide you through the entire process.

“We understand that this may be a bit annoying for some, but we want to offer the best solutions to protect your accounts,” writes Epic.

If you absolutely don’t want to enable two-factor authentication, you obviously don’t have to, but you won’t be able to secure any of the free games from the online store until early May 22.

Right now, Epic Games Store is giving away the strategy game For the King. Starting Friday, May 1, you can pick up the Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Crashlands action adventure without paying a dime.
