All games except one at the end of the Toppserien season are postponed.
As VG announced early Saturday, the end of the season in Toppserien is postponed. He now informs Toppfotball Kvinner in a press release.
Therefore, Vålerenga, Rosenborg and Avaldsnes must wait for the decision on which of the three will win the series gold.
This is because six players in Arna-Bjørnar are in quarantine awaiting responses to covid-19 tests. No positive test has yet been tested at the club.
– We have been lucky that a player has not been infected so far. When a wave of two comes in, it’s terribly sad that it happens the day before the biggest Toppserien event in many years. We must engage with Idsø about what is happening in society now. Most importantly, we do not contribute to the further spread of the infection, says Hege Jørgensen, general manager of Toppfotball Kvinner to VG.
– How did the clubs take this message?
– The clubs are calm, but everyone had mobilized and wanted to play the games. So you just have to readjust, says Jørgensen.
The last games should have been played on Sunday, November 15. All matches, with the exception of Røa against Kolbotn, are postponed.
– Of course, it is very unfortunate that four of the five matches of the last round of the Toppserien series should be postponed, but when almost all the matches are important, competition and fair play must also be taken into account. Therefore, matches should be postponed even if no infection has yet been proven in Arna-Bjørnar, says Nils Fisketjønn, head of the competition department of the Norwegian Football Association in the press release.
Vålerenga Football CEO Morten Grødahl is concerned about the end of the season.
– It’s not good for us. We have a potentially very tight schedule if we advance in the Champions League. I guess the NFF is scratching its head about how to set up the solitaire. I think they are looking into the possibility of moving the NM, says Grøndal.
He and the rest of the club were potentially hoping to collect the first gold in league history on Sunday.
– You fall apart a bit after that, but that applies to both Trondheim and Avaldsnes as well. We are already going to Lithuania on Tuesday, it is also the rest of the national team, the cup final and the Champions League ahead. I guess NFF will prioritize the series and end it, says Grødahl.
The case is being updated.
