When this gang appears on television on Friday, they miss a central figure.
Now the opening shot for the anniversary season of “Every Time We Meet.” Eight Friday before Christmas, former contestants will immerse themselves in each other’s material, before the regular “HGVM” round debuts in the new year.
A total of 29 artists will participate, and in the first broadcast we will see four of the seven who participated in the first round in 2012, namely Halvdan Sivertsen (70), Øyvind «Vinni» Sauvik (44), Bertine Zetlitz (45) and Jan Eggum (68).
Also, Silya Nymoen (42) and Tshawe Baqwa (40) are with – as well as Christel Alsos (35) and Sigvart Dagsland (57). Silya, Tshawe, and Christel participated in 2018, while Dagsland participated in 2015.
One like TV 2 with pleasure would do I had with Anne Grete Preus, who was in the first season. The popular veteran musician died of cancer last summer, aged 62.
When most of the people from the debut season now gathered around the dining room table in Vestre Kjærnes Gård, just outside Moss, a chair was noticed to be empty.
It was especially challenging for Vinni, who was commissioned by TV 2 to perform one of Preus’s songs, an honorable task that was not taken lightly.
Vinni says in the episode that a month before the recording he had a clear vision of which song he would choose. But then the doubt began to arise.
– Three days before, at night, I had a seizure that this was the wrong song. So I threw everything away and started again, the rap star confesses, adding that there were some stressful days in the sprint.
He became so insecure that he was afraid he would have to call TV 2 and say he couldn’t do it.
– I really was sorry, because although this was the best job, it was also the scariest, he tells the others around the table.
The song selection eventually landed on Preus’s popular 1998 “When the Sky Falls.”
– I think you have understood the song, I, Vinni, says Eggum after the performance.
– I’m absolutely sure Anne Grete Preus would have loved this version of Vinni, he tells the camera later in the broadcast.
Sivertsen is also arrested according to Vinni’s interpretation:
There was an empty chair there, but she was still sitting there. Much heart is full, and we notice it around the table, all of us, he says on television.
Here is one of Preus’s appearances in the first round of “Every Time We Meet” (article continues below):
The big screen shows clips from when Preus was there nine years ago, where he talks about “Visit,” performed by Eggum.
– The song is about death in the middle of life. The sensitivity that life has a beginning and an end is so clear, Preus explained at the time.
– sad
Halvdan Sivertsen confirms to VG that he was caught in the flashback.
– It was beautiful and strange and very sad to see Anne Grete Preus on the big screen and remember her. Anne Grete was a wonderfully beautiful lady, whom all Norwegian music misses, says the veteran artist.
According to program editor Kathrine Haldorsen on TV 2, Anne Grete Preus would describe herself as a guest during the anniversary season.
– In the first season, Vinni and Anne Grete got a close and good relationship, and she obviously appreciated their performances. So it was only natural that Vinni would have the honor of choosing one of her songs when she is now honored, Haldorsen tells VG.
VG has been unable to get a comment from Vinni.
New interpretation of «Mariposa»
But it also reminds of the happiest memories of the anniversary premiere. It was precisely in the first round of “HGVM” that Vinni achieved great success with his version of Sivertsen’s beloved “Butterfly in Winterland”.
It was the first meeting of the two artists. Halvdan had never heard of Vinni before, and when introduced to just the name, he thought she was a lady, something Vinni laughs out loud now in hindsight.
– I’m glad every time I meet Halvdan. Halvdan is one of the reasons this show has worked so well, Vinni says on television.
– The first day was Halvdan’s day, and he was himself: generous and inclusive. And he took care of everyone. Somehow it set the standard.
Halvdan, for his part, tells VG that he enjoyed being back at the farm.
– It was very nice to see Vinni and the others again, and not least to have a new and moving version of “The Butterfly”.
“Butterfly in winterland” is also on the bill this time, but now it is Christel Alsos who will be working on the task.
