elite series, Racism | He talks about his own messages after Bamba’s racism:

Racist messages of the kind to which Brann Daouda Bamba’s forward (25) was exposed are far from unknown to Amahl Pellegrino (30). One significant difference is that Kristiansund’s top scorer says he has sent them in Norwegian for years.

Branns’ away game at the Eliteserien against Start on Wednesday ended 1-1 after Bamba’s penalty in the final minutes.

The forward subsequently received rude and racist comments in his Messenger inbox from unknown senders.

Bamba showed several of the 55 new messages he had received on his phone to Bergensavisen after the match at Sør Arena.

Brann’s player from Ivory Coast also said that this is common for him to experience after matches that have gone wrong.

Among the rude words used about the 25-year-old in the post-settlement investigations of Start were “stupid fucking black” and “fucking slave.” Brann has reported the case to the police.

Amahl Pellegrino describes the incitement and racism against Bamba as very sad, and something that he was not particularly interested in investigating further.

– To be completely honest, I have not wanted to look at it, because it is a painful subject. There seems to be a lot to do in the world. It got really sad. I know Bamba very well from before. It’s heavy, Pellegrino tells Nettavisen.

KBK’s top scorer says he hoped it wasn’t the people from Bergen and Brann who were behind when he learned of the incitement against Bamba. He is glad that most suggest that those responsible appear to be foreigners.

He has continued his entire career

The 30-year-old himself experienced receiving racist comments against him from the stands in October, in connection with the away game against Aalesund.

Sunnmørsklubben identified one bystander among several who went well beyond the line. It is prohibited in the Color Line stadium until 2021.

Messages of the kind Bamba received on Wednesday, KBK’s profile is no stranger to itself. Pellegrino says he has been sent racist incitements since he has been playing soccer.

The same goes for many other friends from the elite league profile of the soccer community, he says, whether they play at a high level or in lower divisions.

In the case of Pellegrino, the provocation has been sent by senders in the Norwegian language.

– I have experienced this since I started playing professionally. This is something I know very well. That’s sad. All my friends who don’t have a completely Norwegian background have been through a lot of shit. That’s something we’re used to, Pellegrino tells Nettavisen.

– When you’ve had bad periods and the team has not done well, it has been easy to find scapegoats, explains KBK’s top scorer.

He also says that the provocative messages he’s received have almost never been about achievement.

– No, it goes directly to the color of the skin, and that my family and I will leave this country quickly.

Pellegrino explains that provocation can often hit him hard when he hits the soccer field.

Like Bamba, he admits that racist messages have made it difficult for him to sleep at night.

– I have tried to protect myself

However, showing the messages to others, as Bamba decided to do, has not felt good for the 30-year-old.

He has also chosen not to report the incitement to the clubs he has played for.

– To be completely honest, I only see them myself. I think it’s embarrassing to show those things more, because you might feel a little weak if you say “hey, look what I’m going through.” I tried to protect myself from him and kept him inside.

– You notice that it hits you hard. I had that incident in Ålesund where I realized long afterwards that things were not the same. You struggle to sleep, you feel small and you don’t feel like everyone else, Pellegrino tells Nettavisen.

Unlike what was sent to Bamba, Kristiansund’s profile explains that the provocation he receives is written in Norwegian.

In other words, it is people from Norway who are behind this, or others who are fluent in the language who are the senders.

Pellegrino thinks he can benefit a lot from Brann’s player’s outspokenness about racist incitement.

He refers back to what he experienced in Ålesund earlier this year and notes that the case involved people from all over Norway.

He believes that it is important to use his voice publicly against the problems of racism, and acknowledges that footballers who experience it should report it to their clubs.

– Of course you should. But when you’ve lived with him all these years, he feels like it doesn’t help, no matter what he says. For my part, it has been. That’s why I kept it to myself, Pellegrino explains.

Denied and confirmed

Bergensavisen, after inciting Daouda Bamba, contacted and confronted the senders.

Both examples that the newspaper has photographed on Brann’s forward’s phone are said to have been sent by foreign individuals.

The sender of the rudest and most racist messages replies that he did not write the incitement and claims that it must have been hacked.

The other, who among other things wrote that he expects Bamba to die a crown, confirms that he sent the messages. He has replied that he was cursed after losing a lot of money that he had wagered. The latter sender understands little why Bergensavisen mentions the messages.

Pellegrino anticipates that it will be difficult to locate those responsible for the incitement against Bamba if they are abroad.

In a conversation with Nettavisen, the man from Drammen points out that he hopes people in Norway have learned from their mistakes.

– It’s comforting to know if you don’t come from here. We have worked hard against discrimination and incitement in Norway in 2020. I hope that we learn from the mistakes we have made and that together as a nation and as human beings we will walk the same path. The correct way, points out the player, who has added up to 25 goals in the Elite Series.

Bamba: – It was too much

Daouda Bamba, sports manager Rune Soltvedt and Brann’s captain Daniel Pedersen met with local media for a press conference when they returned to Bergen on Thursday.

The Ivorian notes that he is glad he followed his need to tell the provocation, instead of keeping it to himself. Negative Messages After Disappointing Results Bamba explains that he is used to disappointing results.

But the 25-year-old says according to Bergens Tidende that he was shocked by the amount he received after the sanction against Start, and the content of the same.

– It was too much and I decided to show it. I’m glad I talked about it. “I felt it was better than keeping it to myself,” says the Brann forward.

Bamba explained that it was not pleasant to open the messages. However, in hindsight, he has received massive support from Branns supporters and many have condemned the messages he received after Wednesday’s penalty shootout.

-That was wrong. But now I’ve gotten maybe 200 messages from good people, says Bamba according to Bergens Tidende.
