World famous guitarist Eddie Van Halen, whose real name is Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has passed away. He turned 65.
The rock star died as a result of throat cancer, and according to TMZ, the cancer has recently spread to the brain and other organs.
Death is confirmed by the 65-year-old man’s son, Wolfgang Van Halen (29), the Twitter.
“I can’t believe I have to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, lost the long and difficult battle with cancer this morning,” he writes in the introduction.
“He was the best father I could ask for. Every moment I shared with him both on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I think I will never recover from this loss. I love you very much, Dad,” he continues.
According to TMZ, the musician died at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica on Tuesday, surrounded by his loved ones.

The guitarist was best known as a co-founder of the hard rock band Van Halen. Together with his brother Alex Van Halen (67), they gave their name to the rock band that formed in Pasadena in 1972.
At that time, the band consisted of Alex Van Halen on drums, Eddie Van Halen on guitar, Michael Anthony (66) on bass and David Lee Roth (65) on vocals. Later, however, Eddie’s son Wolfang took on the role of bass player.
The group had several major hits such as “Runnin With the Devil”, “Unchained”, “Hot for Teacher”, “Jump” and “Panama”, and the band has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide. With David Lee Roth as the lead singer, the group’s music videos became an important part of MTV’s first year.
In 2007, the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
However, the 65-year-old deceased could not only play guitar, but also played various instruments such as piano, keyboard, bass, and drums.
Eddie has also been a guest musician on various recordings for other artists, including playing the guitar solo on the late pop star Michael Jackson’s 1982 song “Beat It.”
