NEW YORK (Dagbladet): Emerges from a new article in The Atlantic by editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg.
– Trump abandoned a visit to an American military cemetery in France after calling the dead “losers” for being assassinated, writes the award-winning journalist in Twitter and refers to the article.
Details of the article have since been confirmed by AP journalist Jim LaPorta.
– A senior Ministry of Defense employee, whom I just spoke to, confirms Jeffrey Goldberg’s story in its entirety, LaPorta writes in Twitter.
President Trump fell in honor of 2,288 fallen soldiers. Now blame the traffic
– Full of losers
According to Goldberg, Trump is said to have made the mildly derogatory comments during a visit to France in 2018.
During the trip, it was decided to cancel a planned visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery. There rest the American soldiers who died in the First World War. At the time, Trump blamed rain as the reason the visit was canceled.
However, Goldberg has another explanation.
– Trump rejected the idea of a visit because he feared his hair would unravel in the rain, and because he did not think it was important to honor the slain American soldiers, Goldberg writes, adding:
– In a conversation with senior staff in the morning for the planned visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that graveyard? It’s full of losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 soldiers who lost their lives in Belleau Wood as fools to kill.
– Damn loser
In 2015, Trump also claimed that the now-late Republican Senator John McCain was not a war hero. McCain spent 5.5 years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
– He’s not a war hero. “I like people who don’t get caught,” Trump said publicly at the time.
In The Atlantic, Goldberg claims that Trump would not pay for the funeral of McCain, who died last fall. McCain was one of the few Republicans who continued to criticize Trump even after Trump was nominated as the party’s presidential nominee in 2016. According to Goldberg, Trump is said to have described McCain as a “fucking loser” after his death.
Attack the late McCain again
– It’s a shame
Trump’s spokesman, Judd Deere, claims that the allegations in the article are false.
– No soul was brave enough to put its name on these accusations. That is because they are false. Just another article based on anonymous sources that aims to take down a commander-in-chief who loves our soldiers and has kept the promises he made. What a pity! Deere writes about Twitter.
Trump himself has never served in the US military. When he was of draft age, the Vietnam War broke out. Trump avoided being called up for military service five times because he had a medical certificate that he had a problem with a leg spur below the heel.
