Hedda Hynne (30) in a week has reduced her 800 meter time by almost two seconds, and on Tuesday night she ran into the best year in the world.

– It was a bit of a race, the 30-year-old smiles when VG meets her in Switzerland.

The time was 1.58.10, more than half a second better than Britain’s Jemma Reekie’s time in August. She was the best of the year in the world through Tuesday, and was stationed by Hynne in the sprint Tuesday night.

Until a week ago, Hedda Hynne had a personal best of 1.59.87.

– It may seem that everything is working out now, but it is the result of long-term and patient work, he tells VG.

“We have known that I have been good at this, and now he is sick digg that he succeeds,” continues the middle distance star.

By “we” she means herself and her coach and boyfriend Erik Sakshaug. She gave a clear message on how she should run.

– Jemma Reekie was in the field and had ordered a “hare” in 1.57 hours, Sakshaug tells VG.

– I decided to follow her back, and the last 200 meters felt really good, says Hedda Hynne.

Reekie was out of luck. Hynne won at the Swiss Bellinzona against local hopes Selina Büchel (1.58.37) and Lore Hoffmann (1.58.50).

– I followed Erik’s recipe, says Hynne about how he handled the race.

Just a week ago he erased Ingvill Måkestad Bovim’s Norwegian record of 1.59.82. Then Hynne ran at 1.59.15.

On Tuesday, he pushed himself a second longer, and well, on the clock.

When we ask Coach Sakshaug what has happened, he answers the following:

– It’s nothing special. He has trained very well for a long time. She was twelfth place in the WC in 2019, but we knew she was better than that.

– But before, Hedda has struggled to get into the best playoffs. It has been a challenge. Now today we have the combination of good form, good field and excellent conditions. And then it is possible to send that long.

– At the same time, it is a great relief to see Hedda shown what level she is at, says Erik Sakshaug.

Hynne himself agrees with the coach:

– I knew I had more to go on. Last year I didn’t go into fields where it was really fast. We have been extremely patient at work, but at the same time we were impatient. Now I take the steps and return for the work that we have done.

When asked by NTB if Hynne is a medal candidate at the Tokyo Olympics next year, her club Tjalve’s sports manager, John Ertzgaard, responds:

– It’s hard to say. Suddenly someone else appears who is completely raw, but these moments where she runs are at least good enough to prevail. Hedda has grown into a mature elite athlete, and these races give a lot of confidence on the bench.
