Maradona is said to have died of cardiac arrest in his own home, the newspaper writes.

Nine ambulances are said to have arrived at his home and tried to revive him.

He underwent surgery for a blood clot in his brain almost three weeks ago.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández now imposes three days of national mourning as a result of his death.

Maradona is considered one of the best footballers of all time, and especially his time for the Argentine team and for the Italian club Napoli is considered his heyday.

Now the tributes to the Argentine flow.

– By a wide margin, the best player of my generation. After a blessed but troubled life, I hope you find peace in the hands of God, writes English soccer icon Gary Lineker in Twitter.

The Argentine Football Association has also issued a message.

The Argentine Football Federation expresses through our president, Claudio Tapia, our deepest sorrow after the death of our legend Diego Armando Maradona. You will always be in our hearts, write the association.

His former club Napoli has also fired on Twitter. “Always. Goodbye, Diego,” writes the great Italian club.

Former NRK commentator Arne Scheie has had the honor to comment on Diego Maradona on several occasions, commenting on the legendary World Cup match against England in 1986.

– Now there are many thoughts in my head. I think about what I and the whole world have experienced. When you are at a level like Maradona’s, you enter as one of the greatest in football history. The importance it has had for soccer and for all of Argentina is enormous, says Scheie.

The longtime NRK commentator naturally highlights both goals against England as clear highlights of Maradona’s career. Scheie also recalls how almost single-handedly he led Argentina to a new World Cup final in 1990.

– I am sure that now there is a national duel throughout Argentina. There, he is on top of everything and will always have legend status, Scheie says.

He has also played for clubs like Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona and Sevilla.

It was very important when Argentina won the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

He then scored two historic goals in front of 114,580 spectators at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. His manual scoring against England and his solo foray into the same match are among the most iconic goals ever scored in World Cup history.

He finally finished with 91 internationals and 34 goals for the Argentines.

After ending his playing career at Boca Juniors in 1997, he finally switched to a coaching career.

His time as coach of the Argentine national team will probably be well remembered, where he managed Lionel Messi and the rest of the stars of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
