Weng had a difficult day on the track during Friday’s sprint prologue. Now it has been decided that the rest of the weekend will not start.

The Norwegian national team athlete will not start Saturday’s 10-kilometer classic in Ruka.

This was announced by the Norwegian Ski Association in a press release.

– Heidi Weng doesn’t like skiing now, says national team doctor Øystein Andersen.

– He needs peace and rest and ends the mini tour in Ruka, but he will not travel home until tomorrow with the rest of the team on the planned trip to Norway.

Prologue by Blytung

Weng had a very lead day on the track during Friday’s prologue, where he was 25.83 seconds behind Ane Appelkvist Stenseth at the finish.

– It was a weak prologue. I almost suspect that something has happened to Heidi Weng. This was much weaker than expected, said Torgeir Bjørn after the 29-year-old crossed the finish line.

Weng told NRK after the prologue that nothing special happened during the race.

– It really was only the head that did not work completely, Weng explained to the channel.

Receive support from fellow national team members

The Norwegian national team player has been honest, has been concerned about the infection situation in Europe and recently told Nettavisen that she didn’t really want to travel.

And colleagues on the national team have realized that Weng believes the pandemic is demanding.

Lotta Udnes Weng, who became Norway’s best in the women’s sprint at Ruka on Friday, told a digital press conference on Friday that she is sorry for Heidi.

– I feel bad for her. She’s just scared and I think it takes an effort to be scared all the time, Weng said Friday.

– The most important thing is to support Heidi as a person and teammate. The most important thing is that you feel good about yourself. Skiing means little here. I think you need to talk to the support staff and the health team and make a plan. So we as teammates can be there for her and support her as best we can, Johaug said.
