Critics cheer: Solskjær defends insulted United leaders

Late on Monday night, the transfer window closes. Manchester United still “only” acquired Donny van de Beek for NOK 460 million. Fans and most experts agree that the red jerseys desperately need more players for Solskjær to be in good enough condition this season.

In social networks, the frustration is great. And the pressure on United’s management is mounting as more and more club heroes critically comment on the search for players at Old Trafford. Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher and Patrice Evra are among those calling for action.

In particular, club director Ed Woodward and chief negotiator Matt Judge have been hit hard lately.

– Nobody is more honest

Keane has gone so far as to say that Solskjær’s job is in jeopardy if United fail to secure more transfers. Kristiansunderen is not surprised by the statements.

– He is also directly with me! I’m still very close to Roy. Nobody is more honest than him, and he has always said what he wants to say and what he feels, says Solskjær in an interview with Sky Sports before Sunday night’s game against Tottenham.

Needless to say, things look like there will be hectic activity at United with less than 48 hours to go to the end of the transfer window. Several English and international media reported Saturday night that forward Edinson Cavani is inside. Then the Uruguayan will be released.

Cavani has no contract after leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer. In seven years, he became the French club’s all-time top scorer.

It works differently

Manchester United have long been linked to Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. The young Englishman will be at the top of Solskjær’s wish list, but by Friday at the latest, the German club gave a clear message that Sancho will not be sold in this transfer market. Dortmund are said to value the 20-year-old at 120 million euros, which is equivalent to 1.3 billion crowns.

Solskjær is convinced that the club has a strategy that works.

– I am not so concerned about what other clubs do. Obviously I follow what is happening, but the clubs work in different ways. We have our way of doing things.

– I am very happy to work with the players we have. But part of the job is constantly strengthening the barn, and so far I’ve had support. We work hard to be competitive and to be among the best again, says Solskjær.

New Times

He adds that the corona pandemic has changed football.

– It’s different than it was six or eight months ago. We live in very special times.

Manchester United got off to a poor start to the series with a 1-3 loss to Crystal Palace. Last weekend, the team battled Brighton 3-2 for their first points of the season.

In the same period, Solskjær’s men have reached the quarterfinals of the league cup.
