– We are paying special attention to this change in the virus.
A new variant of the coronavirus that has been discovered in the UK is spreading faster than normal. According to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the new variant is up to 70 percent more contagious. More than 1,000 cases of the new variant have been found in the country.
The virus variant has spread rapidly in the UK, prompting several countries to introduce strict measures against travelers from the country. In Norway, the Norwegian Health Directorate asks all UK travelers to get tested, the Minister of Health and Care Services, Bent Høie (H), says they are considering introducing more measures.

More dangerous?
On Sunday, the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) published an important case in which they report on the new variant of the coronavirus.
We’ve also seen some of the changes seen in the UK virus in Norway viruses, but not as many changes and in the mix reported by the UK, says the Institute’s Line Vold department head. National Public Health on its own website. Regarding the danger of the new variant of the virus, Vold says:
– There is no evidence that the variant of the virus causes a more or less serious disease.

Will the vaccines work?
Line Vold further says that FHI pays special attention to changes in the spike protein, which is the tag for the virus.
– It is because it is very important for the virus’s ability to infect humans. This is also the area where most vaccines are directed. If major changes occur there, it can have an impact on infectivity.
FHI writes that it can theoretically make tests less sensitive and vaccination less effective, but that so far these are just hypotheses.

Restrictions
On Sunday afternoon, it became clear that EU member states were urgently summoned to a video meeting on the new variant of the virus.
Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany are some EU countries that have introduced entry denials for UK travelers as a result of the variance. So far, FHI has not recommended introducing an entry ban into Norway.
