Coronavirus, Alien | The professor sounds the alarm against more countries that follow the strategy of the Swedish crown

– The strategy of the Swedish crown is a disaster that has cost unnecessarily many lives, believes the professor.

Andrew Ewing, in fact, has written a lengthy article in Time magazine where he argues that other countries should not look to Sweden.

He is a professor of biochemistry at the University of Gothenburg and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

For Aftonbladet, Ewing says he is “sincerely concerned” that countries are now using the Swedish model.

– Errors must be acknowledged

He lists several worrying signs that the spread of the infection is increasing in Sweden, noting that the country has an alarmingly high statistic when it comes to deaths.

Ewing’s biggest criticism is that the Swedish strategy is beginning to be accepted as a solution around the world.

– So many people have died unnecessarily because of the mistakes we have made. Mistakes must be acknowledged so that we can move forward, he says.

As an example of the winning Swedish strategy, Ewing mentions an American research initiative called the “Great Barrington Declaration.” They are in favor of herd immunity and praise the Swedish strategy. The initiative has been well received by the White House, according to the New York Times.

– I’m very worried about this. It is a group of conservative economists who lock up all people over the age of 60 and let the virus spread to the rest of the population. This is not how you can achieve herd immunity, it is achieved through vaccines, says Ewing.

Threat with stricter measures

The professor points out that people only have ten percent immunity in Sweden now, despite the many deaths.

– Can you imagine what it would have been like if we had had a herd immunity of, for example, 60 percent? he asks rhetorically.

Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has also recently admitted that things are not going quite well in Sweden.

– Right now, things are also bad in Sweden. There are too many who don’t follow the rules. If this does not improve, we must introduce stricter measures, Löfven told a press conference ahead of the EU summit in Brussels.

– We’re not done with this. Everyone must step up, take responsibility and follow the rules and recommendations that exist, says the Prime Minister.
