According to the island’s prime minister, Bob Loughman, the island’s corona off times are over, after a man was diagnosed with the corona virus. The man came to Vanuatu from the United States, via Sydney and Auckland.

According to the AP news agency, the 23-year-old man had no symptoms of the virus, but was being tested routinely. He received a positive test result on November 5, the day after his arrival.

“I want to assure our citizens that the authorities will follow strict rules and crown measures to ensure that this case does not spread and that our country is still safe,” Prime Minister Loughman said, according to Australian ABC.

According to the authorities of the small island state, the plan is to keep all of the man’s traveling companions in quarantine and to locate his close contacts.

Health director Len Tarivonda affirms that the man may have had a contract with almost 200 people.

Four other contagious countries

So far, Vanuatu has only tested people from countries with high infection pressure. After last week’s infection, routines change and everyone who arrives on the island must be tested.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Vanuatu, which has around 300,000 inhabitants, has been one of the few countries in the world that so far has been rid of corona infection.

According to a WHO report, dated October 14, no infection has been recorded in the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Samoa, the Solomon Islands or Tonga.

North Korea and Turkmenistan also say they have not had a single case of infection in the pandemic so far.
