Fauci warned this week that opening businesses and schools too quickly in the United States could lead to new outbreaks of new outbreaks across the country, new deaths, unnecessary suffering, and further financial reduction in the country.
“For me, this is not an acceptable response, especially when it comes to schools,” President Donald Trump said when he met with journalists on Wednesday.
The only thing Trump thinks would be acceptable now is to keep “old age” teachers and professors at home away from work.
“They should take it easy for a few more weeks,” said the president.
Turbulent
This is not the first time that Trump and Fauci have openly contradicted each other. In April, Trump posted a message on Twitter in which someone else proposed firing Fauci, after the expert commented that more lives could have been saved if the United States had closed earlier.
“Anthony is a good person, a very good person, I have not agreed with him,” Trump said Wednesday in an interview on the morning broadcast on Fox Business Network. He reiterated that the United States must reopen.
– We want to do it safely, but we also want to do it as soon as possible, we have to open up. I completely disagree with him about schools, Trump said.
President Trump had planned to run for reelection this year with a strong American economy as his most important card in the election campaign. He has repeatedly called for the reopening of companies and schools that have had to close to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Dark figures
Fauci, 79, is considered the government’s most credible man in the fight against the coronavirus. More than 1.4 million Americans have been diagnosed with coronary infection, and so far authorities have recorded more than 83,000 coronary deaths.
– Most of us have a feeling that the death toll is probably higher than this, Fauci says.
Fauci has advocated continued closure to control the spread of the virus, but he has many against it, especially on the far right side of American politics.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio tells CNN that Fauci “utters an honest voice based on caution, and I share his views.”
– I think we should be very careful with the steps we take, says de Blasio.
