– Confirmed the doping scandal of the time

On Thursday, Russia was excluded from the main championships for the next two years. This is a halving of the original WADA verdict, and Russian athletes can still participate under a neutral flag, as they did during the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, for example.

This is confirmed by CAS in a press release. Stanislav Pozdnyakov, president of the Russian Olympic Committee, tells Rsport that athletes who have previously been banned from doping can compete in the Olympics.

– The TAS has confirmed the all-time doping scandal in Russia, says Anders Solheim in Anti-Doping Norway.

You have no doubt that Russia is getting away too cheap:

– When organized cheating is followed by subsequent cheating tests and Russia does not provide all the information during the investigation, then something is wrong, says Solheim.

The leader also believes that Russia will get away with it cheaply.

– In the verdict, Russia is still asked to put all the cards on the table. We still don’t know which perpetrators are guilty or innocent. The problem is that the truth has not come out. And now it’s been five years, Solheim tells Dagbladet.

Sergei Ustyugov is an example of this. He has been expelled from the major championships because he has a doping test in the “system”, but it is unknown if it is a positive doping test or if any of his tests have been tampered with.

The head of Anti-Doping Norway also criticizes the fact that the CAS hearings have been held behind closed doors, which means that the public does not get to know the evidence that has been presented in the case.

– What does this have to say about anti-doping work going forward?

– At least it doesn’t keep going …

American support

The head of the US anti-doping agency USADA, Travis Tygart, comes to a ruthless settlement with the CAS verdict. He calls it a terrible decision in a press release:

– Russia escapes again. The verdict is not crime style. This is a catastrophic setback for pure athletes, the integrity of the sport and the rule of law, says Tygart.

He continues:

– At first we reacted with shock, but the fact is that we should have understood that it was so. WADA and the IOC have manipulated and mistreated this dirty doping case from day one. They have simply re-chosen politics on principle.

– Surprised

Sports president Berit Kjøll did not expect the exclusion of Russian athletes from the Olympics and the World Cup to be cut in half. At the same time, he believes that punishment sends a strong signal.

– We are surprised that the suspension length has been cut in half. The Norwegian Sports Confederation supported Wada’s decision in 2019 on a four-year suspension from the Russian anti-doping agency Rusada, Kjøll says in a press release.

She continues:

– However, it is important that CAS declares that the halving of the suspension period should not be understood as a form of acquittal by Rusada or the Russian authorities in this case. It is very serious that the Russians have erased all traces of the state scam.
