– Of course, one is completely empty after a day like this, but it felt great, says Pettersen to NRK after the winner.

Today in Tallinn, some of Europe’s best chefs competed for the prestigious winner of the Bocuse d’Or Europe.

Leading the Norwegian team is Christian André Pettersen, who won the competition in 2018.

Pettersen and Norway took another gold in the tough cooking competition today.

– It’s fantastic, it’s been a long road and we are finally here in Tallinn, Pettersen said just after receiving the generous award.

Sixteen of Europe’s best chefs compete in the championship, and the top ten will go to the world championships in Lyon in 2021. Pettersen was not sure in advance of the winner, he later said, trophy in hand. .

– We had invested in some dishes that we weren’t sure would be accepted, he says.

When did you think the winner was in the box?

– When Denmark was summoned in second place, I knew that we took the gold, says the dealer.

Sweden took bronze, in an event characterized by infection control rules. With a bandage on most of the people in the room and without the audience in the stands.

The other two from the Norwegian trio who took home the gold are “commis”, namely the assistant, Even Strandbråten Sørum, and the coach Gunnar Hvarnes.

He sat excited in Sandnes

Bodøværingen has our chef at the Mondo restaurant in Sandnes. There is an excited group of Norwegian flags awaiting the jury’s response.

– You don’t know until you know, but it looks good, says Pettersen’s colleague Rasmus Skoglund.

Besides the flag, they have a lot of cowbells and the atmosphere is on the ceiling. When Denmark comes second, they find champagne.

What makes that Christian win, if he is summoned now?

– I think it is that we dare to make a different fish dish, says Skoglund.

And with good reason, Norway and Christian André Pettersen are named after them and the roar of cheers is overwhelming, both in Tallinn and in Sandnes.

Nervous about gold

– He just called and seemed calm and satisfied, says Ellen Therese Ims, Christian André Pettersen’s partner.

Ims tells me that it takes an incredible amount of hours of intense practice before such a competition.

– But this time they allowed me to join, so for my part it has been absolutely great, laughs.

Ellen Therese Ims and the rest of the gang have been following the broadcast for several hours and are just waiting for the jury’s decision.

– The chances of winning are good, Norway is always strong, and if they have delivered as we have trained, there are good chances, at least for the podium, says Pettersen’s colleague Rasmus Skoglund.

With the winner in Chef of the Year 2019, the merchant is already secured as a Norwegian candidate at the world final in Lyon in 2021.

– The objective is that we win the World Cup, right now it is important to get a good position and show that we are still “ready”, says Skoglund.

Aims to win everything

In last year’s world final, there was also a place on the podium. Last year, Pettersen had to admit he was a bit disappointed.

Last year’s bronze means that Norway has won the most medals for its food at the Bocuse d’Or. Since its inception in 1987, Norway has won five gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

The Scandinavian countries are dominant in the Bocuse d’Or, with Denmark as the winner of last year’s World Cup, and Sweden and Norway in second and third places.

There is no shortage of prestigious awards for the 31-year-old.

With a voice at the 2019 national Chef of the Year championship at Mathallen in Oslo, Pettersen is a candidate for next year’s Bocuse d’Or in Lyon, and the most important thing in the European competition is to show his best side.
