Champions League – scares in sight

  • Liverpool 2-0 Midtjylland (0-0)

Jürgen Klopp and his Liverpool were big favorites against Midtjylland in the Champions League on Tuesday night. But the first half was a sad achievement at Anfield, where the Champions League anthem hasn’t been played since March 11.

First, Anders Dreyer spooked Liverpool with a great opportunity in the third minute. Then midfielder Fabinho had to come out with an injury after half an hour.

This was the sight Klopp certainly didn’t want to see. Since before, midfielder Virgil van Dijk has been out with a knee ligament injury.

Fabinho was replaced by Rhys Williams, 19, whom hardly anyone had heard of before the season. But despite the midfielder’s crisis: Liverpool went down 2-0 and three points after goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah.

It was not easy to see what hit Fabinho. But there are many indications that it is a stretch in the back of the thigh. The Brazilian ran back to defense alone, when he suddenly got to his feet.

He immediately had to sit on the grass. And the drugs indicated a change. Klopp was left out. And possibly his first thought was: “Here you have to trade it in the January window.”

– This was the last thing we needed, Klopp says after the game.

– Felt it in the back of the thigh (the hamstring), and it’s not good. He said he could keep playing but not run, which doesn’t help. We’ll see. We want to know more after it has been scanned.

COMPLETE JAR Liverpool have six points in the group.

The Liverpool manager opted to rest the stars from the start. Both Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané found their seats in the stands.

The home team was weak and found no rhythm in the first place. The players who replaced the trio of stars at the top failed to stand out. And Midtjylland should have led because of Anders Dreyer’s great opportunity early in the round.

Liverpool added another march after the break. The 1-0 came at 55 minutes as a result of a great combination. This involved Xherdan Shaqiri, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Diogo Jota. The latter was able to easily put the ball into goal, after receiving a pass behind the Midtjylland defense.

This was the 10,000th goal in Liverpool’s history.

On the sidelines, coach Brian Priske despaired. The first half indicated that it could be a sensational night for the Danes, but it came with sleep.

After class, Liverpool strengthened with Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah. Central Jutland never made it back.

Anders Dreyer had a great opportunity in the final minutes. But shortly after, Liverpool received a penalty and Salah did not miss.

In the second match of the group, it ended 2-2 between Atalanta and Ajax.
