In the second set, Ruud was unlucky with a referee error. Ruud pointed outside the area, telling the referee that Thiem knocked out the ball. After much discussion, the judge said no. Ruud was clearly abandoned. The television images showed that the referee’s decision was wrong, the ball was clear.
